LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A high-speed bullet train from Southern California to Las Vegas is a step closer to reality.
Brightline, the company that will build the system, has announced a landmark labor agreement with the High-Speed Rail Labor Coalition, which is "compromised of 13 rail unions representing more than 160,000 freight, regional, commuter, and passenger railroad workers in the United States."
The $10 billion investment is expected to create nearly 35,000 jobs during construction and over 1,000 permanent jobs once operational, according to a press release from Brightline.
The fully-electric train will be able to travel 200 miles an hour.
There will be stations near the Las Vegas Strip, Rancho Cucamonga, Apple Valley and Hesperia.
Construction is set to begin later this year and may be completed by 2027.

I want one to go to Phoenix. Short trip to SoCal in the summer would be so nice :)
Always thought this would be the best route for a mag-lev system.
This one makes sense.
2027 and $10B? My estimate is 2037 and $80B
Bullet train?
Yep, when the gangs/cartels take it over..............

PRIVATE American railroads built the USA and were the foundation of our economic power, as well as much of our culture.
Private companies still run freight, own the tracks and the rights of way. They run very efficient and profitable businesses
Fed.gov runs passenger rail, using the private freight rail system.
Imagine your local DMV and government drivers running and Uber service - THAT is current state of US passenger rail, thanks to bloated government and books full of destructive, progressive regulation and laws.
Its good to see a private rail being built.
Americans alive today can’t even imagine PRIVATE companies running passenger rail on our extensive rail network, because it hasn’t been done in over 50 years and we are completely dominated by socialist, central-planner thinking. Its pathetic the lack of imagination Americans and politicians have in this area.
Yes, it might get use but the price is wishful thinking. 10 billion will become 50 billion.
Is that going to be an “assault” bullet train?
Whoopee-— so a fast train from Lost Angels to Lost Wages-— a perfect setup using TAXPAYER money from the rest of the country to double finance a needless transportation rail. Aircraft go to and fro everyday. No NEED for this whatsoever, except for those railroad “worker” unions and the huge payoffs of continuous never ending construction.
Boon-doggle is the word for this throughout our history. Make work, make DEMS pay dems the kick, cause Ukraine is not enough.
Build whole cloth “better” for JoeBama and all the rest of these bloodsuckers.
1 hour 15 minutes to Las Vegas. Reduces traffic on I15 during peak times. No gas to buy. This could be wildly successful.
Well, it should help the casinos siphon off $$ from the LA crowd.
This is not being built with California state government involvement. A private Florida company is building it and if you look at Brightline in Florida you’ll see they know what they’re doing and they will do it on time.

Exactly, if any high-speed rail system has a chance to be successful this one would be it, I’m sure they have studies that show how many people from the LA area drive or fly to Las Vegas on a daily basis, I’m sure given the chance to take a relatively short high-speed train would be appealing at the right price, assuming it has decent amenities, especially if it has a stop near or right on the Vegas Strip.
It could a lot of fun to jump on the train with your friends in LA, party all the way to Vegas and not have to worry about driving or going thru 2 airports.
Oh come on. By car you can be there in a few hours and have your car to drive around in. You can also buy a cheap plane ticket to Las Vegas from LA then rent a car or take an Uber around town.
Imagine jumping on the train on a Friday after work with your friends during football season, partying all the way to Las Vegas, something you can’t do in a car or airplane, getting to Vegas on a Friday afternoon after work, gamble and party all weekend, get home Sunday night and go back to work.
If any high-speed train has a chance to be successful, this one could be it.
