Beijing’s ‘reunification’ plan for Taiwan ‘on fast development track’, NPC deputy says

Beijing will speed up its “reunification” plan for Taiwan, a deputy to the top legislature said ahead of its annual meeting that starts this weekend.

“The [Communist] Party’s overall strategy for resolving the Taiwan issue in the new era has basically taken shape, and the strategic goals and focus of the future reunification cause have also become very clear,” National People’s Congress deputy Li Yihu said.

“The mainland will promote national reunification on a fast development track,” Li told China Review News Agency in an interview published on Monday. Tensions have escalated across the Taiwan Strait, which separates the island from mainland China. It comes as tensions are soaring across the Taiwan Strait and amid speculation that Beijing could attempt to take the self-ruled island – which it claims as part of its territory – by force in the next few years.

Li made the remarks days before this year’s meetings of the top legislative and political advisory bodies – known as the “two sessions” – begin on Saturday.

A series of new policies, including on Taiwan, are expected to be unveiled during the gathering, along with the defence budget and a government reshuffle. Comments made by NPC deputies such as Li can provide some insight into Beijing’s policymaking, which remains largely secretive.

In the interview, Li – who is also dean of the Taiwan Research Institute at Peking University – said 2022 was an “extraordinary” year for cross-strait ties and that its major events would “have a certain impact on the future direction” of the relationship.

So what are the Neocons' plans for defending Taiwan, while simultaneously defending Ukraine? (Never mind our own borders.)

They have to have it done by 2024, because of the risks that Trump or DeSantis might win the Presidency.

But would a president Trump or DeSantis be able to do anything to stop China in 2025?

Consider how much weaker the U.S. will be by then. How much deeper in debt. How much weaker militarily (having shipped much of our supplies to Ukraine, plus the wokeness of the officer corps). How much more fragile our economy and supply chains. How much more domestic turmoil.

Would a president Trump or DeSantis be able to trust the loyalty or competency of our military and intelligence services? The military refused Trump's orders to put down the rioting in D.C.

Trump or DeSantis would have to build up America and drain the swamp, before either could launch any new wars.

That’s how I’m reading it anyway. Bidon is controllable, so they are fine.
For them, 2024 poses a risk of a nationalistic President and Congress becoming more nationalistic. So, that’s a risk to them.

They also have internal pressures that may be influencing their decisions, like Demographic collapse. Having a monopoly on the chip market could help China.

Our Military is an absolute dumpster fire of epic proportions.
It can barely function as is with all the homos involved. it obeys no one except itself.

Only bright side is it probably cannot be successfully utilized by the democrats to literally eliminate their opposition due to this.

Yes they have to do it while Joe is still prez.

If Trump gets in, he will fix things and China knows that.

If Trump were president of Haiti, would he be able to stop China?

It's not enough to have a good president. The president needs to lead a functioning nation. And the U.S. is increasingly dysfunctional.

That’s exactly right. And I’ll bet some of their reunification dollars are lining the pockets of American Democrats who are laying the groundwork for the theft of the 2024 presidential election.

Good point. So give China 2 or 3 years.

And there's something to be said for China waiting until after the 2024 election since invading Taiwan before the election might shift voters to the Trump or DeSantis camp.

The regime is racing toward a two-front world war while depleting our stocks of weapons.

The regime is racing toward a two-front world war while depleting our stocks of weapons.

Which means that, like Russia, we'll have to fall back on our nukes. Perhaps we are living in the Last Days?

Observe closely how China will take Taiwan, if it does, because it will illuminate how they will take the USA.

Those who argue against the war in Ukraine because it weakens us, and it does, should also acknowledge that withdrawing from NATO and indeed withdrawing to the shoreline of the United States itself leaves us in the position that Taiwan finds itself in today, fight against increasing odds under the threat of nuclear annihilation with dubious aid from abroad.

The Chinese will offer carrots and sticks. They will talk of the economic benefits that can be obtained by Taiwan in economic integration with China if only mature people will engage in enlightened cooperation. The left will like that. China will offer a stick: nuclear war and the left in America will be frightened, the question is will the Taiwanese be frightened?

As America has shorn itself of its allies in Europe and in Asia, we are left with a riven domestic political scene in which leftists gain more and more direct political power and more and more indirect media and cultural power. Ultimately, this power will be directed at surrendering to China with meaningless conditions to make it seem palatable to average Americans. Think of the fatuous arguments offered up by the Obama administration in favor of its mindless deal with Iran.

So China will not storm the beaches at San Diego, rather it will subvert every political, economic, academic and cultural institution in America and simply accept our surrender because we will fear the nukes and buy the promises of enlightened cooperation from the Chinese. Think of Stalin's promises to Roosevelt.

Afghanistan is tied to Ukraine which is tied to Taiwan and that, ultimately, is tied to America.

If the conquest by that point, you’re right. What can they do?
However, Trump really rattled Beijing’s cage when he was President. So, if they haven’t yet taken over Taiwan if he becomes President, he won’t fool around about it.

China is not going to take the U.S militarily. They will continue to weaken our society by supporting woke ideology here. This will neuter our military while keeping just enough of our economy afloat to still benefit China through trade.
