A group of Pennsylvania Republicans are demanding that Democratic Sen. John Fetterman either appear on camera and demonstrate he is still capable of doing his job or, failing that, that he resign from his federal office.
Fetterman has been hospitalized for nearly two weeks due to reported clinical depression; little is known about his status as an inpatient at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, though his staff said on Monday that he is "on a path to recovery."
The Washington County, Pa., Republican Party, meanwhile, said in a Facebook post on Monday that it "refuses to take assurances from the Office of the Senator or Democrat operatives that Fetterman is able to carry out his duties as Senator."
"As such, we call upon Senator Fetterman to appear on camera to show us he is alive and well," the post continued, "and if he is unable to do so, we call upon our elected Representatives in Washington, Senator Casey and Congressman Reschenthaler, to intervene immediately."
"Ultimately, if Fetterman is unable or unwilling to carry out his duties as a United States Senator, then we ask for his resignation and call for a special election to be held this year," the group said.

LOL Uncle Fester must have been wearing a red shirt lately
Fetterman will never be able to truly carry out the functions of his office. His stroke was very serious. I feel sorry for his health condition but he never should have ran.
Does Pennsylvania have a provision for a special election to fill a vacant senate seat?
In some other States , the governor appoints someone to fill a vacant senate seat until the next regularly scheduled election.
“Pennsylvania Republicans demand”
Ha. They think they are in a position to make demands. Sorry, but you are the “bottom” in this relationship you entered into with the Democrats, PA Republican party.
I don’t know for sure but I’ve read we want him to stay in office until a certain point so that there is a special election. Republicans would be stupid asking him to resign if that’s the case.
It Fetterman resigns by mid August, there will be a special election in November. Newly elected Senator is seated immediately. If it’s after, Shapiro’s appointee is Senator until the next statewide election, in 2024 I thin.
who had February in the pool?
I am of the opinion that ANY representative or senator that misses either 30 days while congress is in session, or 60 days when congress is not in session, shall have their seat declared vacant.
Mark Kirk was absent from the Senate for about a year after his stroke.
i think they have to prop up fetterman until august to avoid a special election
PA State Vegetable John Fetterman needs to be exposed to more sun. Move him to direct sunlight a couple hours a day.
Thank You.
The Democrat Party has no interest in allowing the legitimate processes of representative government take their course.
Case in point: The infamous 2002 New Jersey election.
“Torricelli dropped out of the race on September 30 due to ethical problems and poor poll numbers against Forrester, a relatively unknown opponent.”

“After overtures were made... to take over as candidate, the New Jersey Democratic Party called upon Lautenberg and he accepted the nomination. ... New Jersey law forbade the replacement of candidates on the ballot after a certain deadline. The ballot name change was unanimously upheld by the New Jersey Supreme Court,[17] who cited that the law, as written, did not consider the possibility for an emergency resignation and that Forrester would have an unfair advantage”[!!!!]
