U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has extended a conditional loan of $375 million to Canadian battery recycler Li-Cycle Holdings Corp., to construct a hub in Rochester, New York, the company announced Monday.
The loan will be disbursed through the DOE’s Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing (ATVM) Program, and is part of the Biden administration’s wider goal of enhancing domestic battery manufacturing and having half of all new vehicles be zero-emission by 2030, according to the DOE Monday. Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York — who visited Li-Cycle’s Rochester hub in September — advocated for the firm to receive federal funding, Reuters reported.

“Green Energy” is based on corruption and graft. It has a noble goal that can never be realized using current or near-term tech. There is so much money in play that politicians are climbing all over it picking winners and losers, but my kids are guaranteed to lose as they drown in debt and throttled GDP for the nation to prevent a few degrees of warming in 100 years (their words - not mine).
Excellent video if you want to understand the real limitations of these proposals (aka mining). One of the key parts of the presentation is the graph for EV’s in comparison to ICE vehicles (internal combustion engine).

When you look at that graph, consider when you will need to replace an EV battery. You need to mine 250 tons of material for each 1000lb lithium-ion battery. When you replace that battery it is another 250 tons (Tesla S battery is 1200lbs).
We cannot get “there from here” under the current tech, but we are betting a trillion plus dollars per year on the idea that we can. Politicians and elites are becoming quite wealthy with “green energy” while the standard of living for the rest of us is decreasing. Neat trick.
Another consideration that Mills does not discuss in the video or pay enough attention to (likely from time constraints) is the requirement to beef up our electrical grid to support EV’s. The current grid is not up to the task so there will be even more raw materials needed (at incredible expense) to beef up the grid to support an EV in even 33% of garages much less every garage.
Follow the $$$$.
