I have relatives who believe that being sentenced to "five years in Florida" is cruel and unusual punishment.

I do; and I can tell you one thing right now, if he’s intelligent enough to play a video game he is intelligent enough to understand consequences.
My brother in law was the person in question; Andy thought it was great good fun to just walk up to a person and give them a good HARD slug.
Andy was a 6 foot 2 inch 230 pound man with a 6 year old mentality.
He tried the “slug game” with me and it didn’t work; after I punched him in the face, threw him on the ground and told him if I ever saw or heard of him doing that again to anybody I would beat him to death.
Yes he cried, remember an 18 year old man with a 6 year old brain that was never going to get better.
2 moths after that incident I married Andy’s oldest sister and he became my brother in law.
My wife and I had been married 42 years when Andy had to move in with us because his group home was closing and his medical problems required close supervision, so basically I became his dad.
Neither Andy or me ever forgot that first disciplinary action, when they had problems with him in the group home or at his work place they just called me and I would find out what happened and correct the problem but I never had to lay a hand on him again.
Wound up loving that boy like my own son, health problems took him 2 years ago.
Castration is unnecessary. If it is lynched first.
The only experience needed with a Downs type choking people would be life imprisonment with no parole. He can try to choke out his 250 pound cell mate and then we let nature take its course.
Surprise, surprise, surprise. They wish us dead or in concentration camps and are getting more brazen about it.
I am sorry for your loss.
I see that you said nothing about calling the police on your BIL for slugging people. You handled things on your own. I had a few relatives with these disabilities. They were disciplined by their parents, just like the rest of us, but everyone understood they might never fully comprehend things the same way other kids did.
The student in this case lives in a group home. Note that I NEVER said he shouldn't be punished. He SHOULD be removed from the school and charged. But, he does have an intellectual disability. He probably should be placed in an institution (if one still exists). That's all I'm saying.
I noticed these special needs programs will hire anyone. They are desperate for people to help. This woman is 57. I'm a woman myself. One of my disabled relatives was 6'4" and built like a brick wall. You know what I never did? I never took a videogame from him. Sheesh, maybe if you're a big man with some strength you can do that. I hope she's okay, sues for lots of money, and then retires. But, these programs should hire big, strong men to control these big, strong students.
The Democrats will probably make him run for congress when he turns 18.
how’s crt working for ya
Yep, I live in Democrat controlled Austin. I’ve also been an attorney (civil and criminal litigation and appellate) since 91.
Rereading my last post, I want to be clear: The relatives and other people I knew with these disabilities were good kids. Those who grew big and strong were gentle giants.
