Wyoming's GOP House speaker buries parental rights and school choice bills

The speaker of the Wyoming House of Representatives is under fire from members of his own party who are accusing him of favoring the interests of teachers unions by blocking votes on parental rights and school choice legislation.

On Friday, members of the Wyoming House attempted a procedural motion to sidestep Speaker Albert Sommers (R) and force a floor vote on a bill that would enact a universal school choice. The effort failed on a voice vote.

Sommers claimed he opposes the parental bill because it infringes on the authority of local school boards. The legislation mirrors a law passed last year in Florida that was ignominiously dubbed the "Don't Say Gay" bill and sparked a row between state officials and the Walt Disney Company.

“Fundamentally, I believe in local control,” Sommers told the Cowboy State Daily. “I’ve always fought — regardless of what really the issue is — against taking authority away from local school boards, town councils, county commissions. And in my view, that’s what this bill does."

Sommers did not respond to repeated interview requests from the Washington Examiner.

State Rep. John Bear (R), the chairman of the Wyoming Freedom Caucus, told the Washington Examiner that Sommers's refusal to allow a vote on the parental rights bill was due to the speaker's support for teachers unions.

"I believe the biggest pressure [against the bill] is coming from the teachers union, of which he's very supportive of," said Bear, noting that many Wyoming Republicans are not as conservative politically as one might believe.

"We have a lot of people who run as Republicans but have very progressive beliefs," he added.

\Pper the Speaker “Fundamentally, I believe in local control,” Sommers told the Cowboy State Daily. “I’ve always fought — regardless of what really the issue is — against taking authority away from local school boards, town councils, county commissions. And in my view, that’s what this bill does.”

A lying POS, what could me more locally controlled than the actual parents having the choice. What he supports is a government control of children imposed over the parents!

Maybe if Mike Huckabee sent all the Republican politicians in Wyoming, books with pictures, explaining who Donald Trump is and what a Republican should be...they would quit being Democrats.

“school choice”

TEACHER ROTATION IN JAPAN

“In order to narrow the gap in teaching levels between different regions and different schools, rationally allocate teacher resources to achieve the fairness and stability of education, and at the same time clarify the specific responsibilities of local educational administrative agencies, the Japanese government began to try to formulate relevant policies to promote the teacher rotation system”

https://www.tellerreport.com/news/2021-12-15-effective-ways-for-the-balanced-development-of-compulsory-education-of-faculty-rotation-system.S18RsnAD5K.html

“Teachers in public elementary and secondary schools, vocational schools, and special support schools can work in a school for 7 years. However, there are a few areas where the rule is 10 years, such as Osaka Prefecture.

“After exceeding the prescribed time, you must compulsorily participate in rotation in accordance with the law.”

PRIVATE SCHOOL TUITION FUNDING by SCHOOL PROPERTY TAX REBATE

To assist parents in paying tuition and to be fair to the parents, the amount of school taxes they (and perhaps the parents’ parents) pay on their residence(s) might be rebated.

Eventually, rebates might be paid for past year tuition as well, so if parents pay $40,000/year tuition for two kids and $8,000/year in school taxes, the $32,000/year difference could be partially rebated to the parents in the years after their kids graduate.

It is no longer possible for Republicans to reform systems at the federal level, so Republicans must enact state-level reforms.

And, notice that a “voice vote” is ENTIRELY and ONLY the “judgement” of the “Speaker of the House” ....
No counts, no witnesses, no record of who ACTUALLY voted yes and who ACTUALLY voted it down.

Subtle dictatorship from the GROPElite, ain’t it?

Time for parents to home-school - all of them - thus shutting down public schools AND school boards.

US senators(change the subject). They need a ‘vote of confidence’ amongst their own voters 4 years into their 6 year term. Keep this crap from coming up. This guy is older and probably doesn’t care. No need to look back.

Sommers is a fool or on the take; Parents have the final say regarding their childrens education. OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE AND FOR THE PEOPLE. Sommers needs to retrain and update his reading skills so he can understand what he reads.

Here we finally got rid of the worst of the worst...
Yeah, the democommies got free run for 2 years, but they so far are doing OK, actually removing the tax INCREASE that the republiCAN’Ts placed on pensions and social security.
