The father of the 43-year-old alleged Michigan State University shooter is asking lawmakers to change laws so “nobody can buy guns no more.”

The Detroit News indicated that 67-year-old Michael McRae now says he does not know where his son got the two 9mm pistols he allegedly had on his person during the February 13, 2023, attack.

He had originally claimed his son bought the guns at a pawn shop.

The father’s remark reminds me of Prohibition back in the 1920s. Just change the laws so no one can buy alcohol.

Well, that was a spectacular failure. Anyone who wanted alcohol could still get it. No problem at all. Only the law-abiding folks were inconvenienced. Gun prohibition would be no different.

And then there’s that 2A. That’s not just any old law. It’s in the Bill of Rights. Can’t get more fundamental than that.

Maybe in a perfect world.

Those intent on acquiring guns for nefarious purposes will always find a way -- black markets and alleyway deals.

AMC ran a TV series, Into the Badlands, a world where guns had been outlawed. Instead, swords were used. The series was just as violent and any 'gun' series. The point is -- those who are bent on committing violence against others will always find a way, a method.
