Last year, Esquire magazine published a list of “The 50 Best Fantasy Books of All Time.” Harry Potter wasn’t on the list. Instead, sitting at the top was The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin, a work of fantasy with analogs to the real-life history of slavery on Earth that won the 2016 Hugo Award for Best Novel.
The genres of pulp fiction (or what is now called “speculative fiction”) that include hard-boiled crime, horror, fantasy, and science fiction, have often both challenged the conservative cultural values of a society and reinforced the idea of a clear battle of good versus evil. The field had true diversity, allowing plots that fought racism and questioned gender roles, such as in Star Trek, and writers who challenged cultural norms, including libertarian philosopher Robert Heinlein and crime-writing legend Mickey Spillane.
Spillane, the subject of a new biography , wrote books including I, the Jury and the anti-communist One Lonely Night. Spillane’s books often feature a protagonist, usually private detective Mike Hammer, going to battle against immoral lowlifes. Hammer himself was not a saint, but as Spillane explained, sometimes his hero was “the monster” that crushed evil, thus making the way for good. It’s no wonder Ayn Rand loved Spillane . So did the public: Spillane’s books have sold more than 225 million copies.
J.K. Rowling , the author behind the Harry Potter franchise, has also sold millions of books. Just as Spillane found himself an outsider to the literary establishment in the 1950s, Rowling has now been canceled by our cultural elites — though the wider public continues to love her and her work. Rowling’s dilemma points to an important problem within the creative industry: Even though fans and creators of speculative fiction are open to all kinds of different stories and characters...

Haven’t ever read any of her books, but am pretty sure that Rowling is not pulp fiction,
The Left is trying to cancel JK but not having any luck, she’s far too wealthy and they’re not getting much traction. The release of the new Hogwarts video game has been pretty successful which is adding many more dollars to her coffers.
JK Rowling was a harsh critic of Pres Trump, she was no doubt one of them. When you sleep with dogs ...

Black stories that portray whites and bad guys is ok because that’s really true.
Harry Potter sucks. It was never a high quality read. It was written for children and was adopted by adults who thought it was great that so many children liked it. I read every book in the series until the fifth one. They were all in the format of a school year and all of the major events took place on some major holiday. The ghost shows up on Halloween, scares somebody on Christmas, is seen in the hallways on Easter and then you find out what the story of the ghost is just asthe school year ends. That’s just stupid. Something that would happen overr a week gets stretched out to a whole year. And don’t get me started on Dumbledore. Too late! He starts out as a bumbling wizard like the Black Cauldron and a couple of books later he becomes Gandalf. The name Dumb old dork does not strike fear.
She writes pulp fiction under the name Robert Galbraith
Congress can delete the 47,000 IRS army by simply not funding it. Has that happened yet???
Ah! Thank you.
They can only banish what you allow to be banished.
Stop thinking they are totally in control. They are not.
That ia one pathetic individual, imo.
