How many skilled professionals in all job categories were laid off because they wouldn’t take the government-mandated shots - the result of which was the recruiting and hiring of novices without the education, experience and proper training to do hazardous, skilled jobs? Just asking. The number will likely never be known.

Wut?
Would be helpful to know the average train derailments occur in the USA and how those averages compare to now vein only 2 months into 2023.
Interesting phraseology. Not "has" derailed. Freudian slip?
Is the rail company with all the derailments called Taggart Transcontinental? Sounds like James Taggart is in charge
WKRP in Cincinnati reference?
Commies are gonna keep derailing trains until you make them stop doing it.

Average is something like three a day. I imagine most are extremely minor. I suspect most of this is observer’s bias, but I don’t have the current year numbers to verify that.

“There’s a thin veneer of hyper-competent professionals who keep the lights on and the water drinkable. Replace them with the incompetent and the water turns brown and the lights go out.”
Speaking as a superannuated engineer (mechanical/automation/automotive manufacturing)....THESE DERAILMENTS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING. Either roadbed and track maintenance, or rolling stock maintenance, or crew procedures, or ??? are being neglected. Dollars to doughnuts, either the technical professionals who would be making thing safe and reliable are being over-ruled by bean counters and politicians, or worst case they are simply being replaced with cheaper, more compliant help.
I posted this an hour or so ago - go read it of you haven’t already.

The veneer that makes our civilization possible is 3,000 miles wide and about 1/2 an inch deep.
I just learned today that a 5 minute Google search takes as much energy as it does to boil a quart or so of water. Think about that for a minute.
Great article, btw. Thanks.
