People gripe too much. Really it was in a block of “America” type songs along with Ragged old Flag and America the Beautiful, nobody introduced as any kind of anthem. Really the only people who made a big deal about it are the folks complaining. It’s a pretty song, deal.
and it is a Christian hymn, here is the third verse
God of our weary years,
God of our silent tears,
Thou who hast brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who hast by Thy might,
Led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee,
Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee;
Shadowed beneath Thy hand,
May we forever stand,
True to our God,
True to our native land
You couldn’t be more wrong
You for one welcome your woke overlords. May your chains rest lightly upon you.
And don’t worry, while you’re sitting on your ass we’ll do something constructive about this trend.
The American Indian national anthem is coming . . .
You remind of the Jews celebrating the anthem at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
Dumb people never see it coming.
Cuck…deal.
I get what you are saying, but it apparently wasn’t presented in the context of “America The Beautiful” and “Ragged Old Flag”.
It was presented wholly in the woke context of racial grievance.
I don’t think people are griping too much in this case. They have a point, a point recognized by many like me who have largely stopped watching the NFL or other sports such as the NBA that hawk this racial grievance stance.
“Thank you, Sir! May I have another?”.
Oh? And did everyone fall silent and stand attentively/solemnly during the performance of those other "America" type songs? No, no they didn't.
I pretty much agree. The song seems to be pretty good. I don’t think dubbing it a Black National Anthem is a net positive. We shouldn’t call the Star Spangled Banner a White National Anthem.
Let’s have the NA and some patriotic songs. America the Beautiful, Lift Every Voice, etc. A shame people want to continue to divide us over this art.

You embrace being obtuse as though it was a virtue
It could be the prettiest song in the whole world, but people should not be asked or expected to stand up for it AS IF it were the national anthem.
Because it isn’t.
See?
You completely miss the point of the objections. The reason that the National Anthem is played is to express a unifying tribute to our country. To have a ‘second’ anthem dedicated to one race of people conveys just the opposite.
