Google’s blog entry about Bard contains an animated graphic designed to demo the Bard user experience, and, long story short, the AI in it wrongly claims the James Webb Space Telescope took the first ever picture of an exoplanet. Google also tweeted the animation with this statement in it.

People still seem to be missing that this at this point this tech is primarily a way to funnel people into much, much, much more narrowly “curated” and controlled search results.

Good luck finding anything they don’t want you to find on the new Internet.

Management should have run the AI response by a real live person.

And basic Google search can simply give wrong information, when most people think it is accurate.

Go to Google Images and search for “White American Couple” and see the results.

If it can’t be trusted for that basic search, why would anyone trust it for important searches?

Wokeness destroys everything it touches.

These are not actually AI, they are really good at language processing and find answers already written to a problem similar or exactly the same presented in the current user prompt and regurgitate them. It doesn’t actually know how to find new solutions.

It’s really good at finding a solution another human has already provided. So it is very useful for that purpose.

Spot on. The internet of today cannot be trusted.

Glad I was able to be there for the fledgling
internet in 1993. Pretty cool to see it evolve those early years.

“Good luck finding anything they don’t want you to find on the new Internet.”

Unfortunately for them, anyone can write a new webcrawler (or resurrect one of the many old ones out there) to make a new search engine that will actually work.

And how is everyone going to learn about that webcrawler?

And if Bard doesn’t want to introduce me to the world.

I am of course not meaning to be totally defeatist, but rather to illustrate a massive issue that is largely being missed.
