esident Joe Biden touted electric vehicles as the solution to climate change again Tuesday night during his State of the Union address.
“We’re building 500,000 vehicle charging stations installed across the country by tens of thousands of IBEW workers,” Biden said, “and helping families save more than $1,000 a year with tax credits for the purchase of electric vehicles and energy-efficient appliances.”
Those tax credits, however, aren’t as green as they seem.
EVs Are a Green Illusion
The process to manufacture electric vehicles is so environmentally toxic between the mining and assembly that it takes years of driving before emissions are reduced, according to a deep dive by RealClear Investigations in October.
“The electric car’s biggest disadvantage on greenhouse gas emissions is the production of an EV battery, which requires energy-intensive mining and processing, and generates twice as much carbon emissions as the manufacture of an internal combustion engine,” RealClear reported. “This means that the EV starts off with a bigger carbon footprint than a gasoline-powered car when it rolls off the assembly line and takes time to catch up to a gasoline-powered car.”
Even then, the American power grid used to charge the car still relies primarily on fossil fuels. In other words, the car runs on coal.
Some studies have shown electric vehicles are even worse for the environment than gas-powered vehicles.

They're good only from a free market perspective.
3 reasons:
1st, 2nd, 3rd laws of Thermodynamics.................
(/AOC)
most wont be able to afford the ev or the electricity to run them
so it will be get on the bus for the masses
Come now! EVs are a great idea!
Well, except that there isn’t enough generation capacity to power the EV transition that is being forced upon us. And it takes more than a decade to build a serious power plant (nuclear, natgas, or coal, which last no one will build). And no one is pushing for a big ramp up in power plant construction.
And the transmission and distribution grid can’t handle a lot more EVs. Heck, it can barely handle existing loads. See CA and TX for some recent examples.
And there’s not nearly enough mining and materials processing in place to provide for enough batteries. Nor for conductors.
But other than all that, an EV transition is a GREAT idea!
1. The Dims quit blocking mining and processing them (as you rightly point out).
2. The Dims let only people who want EV's buy them, not force people to buy them. Thus, we don't have a crazy high demand for the rare-earths.
If the EV worshippers get what they want and force everybody to drive them, then it harms people who legitimately want an EV from being able to get one. But if we have a free market both on choice of vehicle type (ICE or EV or hybrid) and on energy source (oil and rare-earths) then everybody gets what they want in a much cheaper fashion.
Democrats are so stupid they think the only ‘emissions’ that matter are ones coming out of a tailpipe... They’re insane.
First and second law are obvious. Not sure how the third law applies.
This is about controlling the peons, graft, and appeasing their Green extremist constituency. Free markets need not apply.
“Heck, it can barely handle existing loads.”
30% excess capacity in off-peak periods.
The 3 laws of Thermodynamics in Las Vegas terms:
1. You cannot win the Game.
2. You cannot Break Even.
3. You cannot quit the Game.

4. You cannot change the Rules of the Game.................

Electrical Vehicle (EV) Chargers Are “Often on the Fritz”
The entire Buyden administration is a boondoggle.
They are angling for a “Pyrrhic Victory.” The DS might force the American Public to drive EV’s, but they will have destroyed the power grid in the process. What will they plug their ev’s into then? Their butts? It won’t work but is designed to take away the freedom of movement from us commoners.
Where’s the electricity going to come from?
from coal, but mostly - natural gas.
America is too far behind and bureaucratic on building new nuclear plants, so we won’t see any meaningful increase within the next 10 years.
500,000 charging stations-—built by IBEW union workers-—
ANSWERS the entire question of WHY———
The zero ICE policy pushers are just like the zero Covidian policy pushers. It is not going to work in the long run. I live in the midwest. The potential for a substantial loss of range during the winter months rules out an EV as a primary car for me.
