So instead of shooting it down& letting it crash /be destroyed poke holes in it with fmj ammo as the helium leaks out the balloon loses altitude then snag it with an aircraft using “operation skyhook” ttech from the 50’s. That way you get whatever is on the spy balloon & you can keep it secret.

Get a heavy-lift helicopter there. Toss grappling hook, hook the balloon, and tow it to wherever. Put holes in the balloon with a shotgun when over a good place.
I remember during the George W Bush era when one of our surveillance planes had to emergency land on a Chinese island when one of their planes swiped it. They retained the plane and crew for days. Time for the US to collar the balloon and tow it to the US and return the treatment that China afforded the US. Keep the spy equipment on it and use put it on display to the world as to what they are doing
That's exactly what we have done. Half the US population has allowed the Democrat Party and its toadies to brainwash them. Allowing the incompetent Joe Biden to be installed in the Presidency is the direct result. A feckless Supreme Court and an utterly corrupt US Congress, court system, federal agencies, and US military are another direct result.

Good planning by the Chinese. This track would place it over Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota, Offut AFB in Nebraska, Oak Ridge nuclear facilities and even over Washington DC. Pray it isn’t filled with bioweapons or an EMP device. There is no reason not to shoot this balloon down while it is still in sparsely populated areas. Why the heck didn’t we shoot it down while it was at sea in US territorial waters. Biden should declare that such violations of US airspace will be dealt with immediately in the future.
