A Ukrainian soldier's account of the front line in Bakhmut has given rare insight into the tactics being employed by Russian soldiers in the eastern industrial city in the Donetsk region, which has, for months, been one of the war's hottest spots.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a think tank based in Washington, noted in its daily assessment of the conflict that Ukraine's Joint Forces Task Force posted an interview on February 1 with a Ukrainian serviceman operating in Bakhmut.
In his interview, the Ukrainian soldier said that the situation in Bakhmut has recently "radically changed." Russia has committed to the city competent fighters from the Wagner Group, a shadowy paramilitary outfit, and operatives from the Main Directorate of the Russian General Staff (GRU).

The Wagner group employs no nonsense, amoral, experienced mercenaries from around the world. They don’t take prisoners and have no tolerance for anyone in their way. They are so feared in Africa that there mere presence has resulted in docility.
Maybe the close-in recon is something new - but otherwise it the same tactics we have heard for months - once Russia finds concentrations of Ukraine troops, they use artillery to simply lay waste to that piece of ground.
They send in troops once everything is pulverized. Not fast, and not elegant, but it may help them keep their own casualties low.
Its why the amount of Russian artillery fire is, supposedly, 10X Ukraine’s.
This article's purpose is to push the "Evil Wagner War Crimes" Narrative, and to do that, they have to admit that the Wagner offensive is working, and Ukraine (Military) are dying, (whom ISW conflate with civilians).
Importantly, the Russians are advancing, and since the Ukes started targeting civilian infrastructure, the Russians have returned the favor and now there is no safe place behind Uke Human Shields. The Uke Nazis die anyway.

It probably hasn’t yet penetrated your brain that people here are not Putin Fanbois but are people who sought out the actual truth in what is happening instead of wishfully thinking what you wanted to believe which was contrary to facts on the ground.
The fact that this source is slowly opening to a tiny smidgen of truth tell us something. It should tell you something too.
Somebody here last night claimed that Bahkmut is already surrounded and its garrison was trapped. Would not listen to reason,which is a problem with most FReepers who have let their emotions on the topic get the better of them.
Hard to say which Russia v the Ukraine cliche is worse about that.
