Actor Alec Baldwin and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed will be charged on Tuesday with involuntary manslaughter for the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Western “Rust” in 2021, a New Mexico prosecutor said.
The charges follow 15 months of speculation whether District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies would find evidence Baldwin showed criminal disregard for safety when a revolver he was rehearsing with fired a live round that killed Hutchins.
The “30 Rock” actor has denied responsibility for the shooting, saying he cocked the revolover but never pulled the trigger and it was the job of Gutierrez-Reed and other weapons professionals to ensure it was unloaded.

Lol! Good one!
The information about the shooting scene and the shooting
itself was derived from the media reports.
As an amateur photographer, I know what a side on shooting
would look like, hand extended but not aiming the gun at the
other person in the scene.
An industry agreement on how guns would be used in movies
to eliminate any risk to people on set, should be doable.
I never consider a gun unloaded. The practice of aiming
a weapon at another human is foreign to me, movies or not.
There is also the ability to create a gun that looks just
like the gun they want to use, but it would not have a
place to load ammunition.
The gun could be used as they wish, and the sound and other
affects added in post production. They can do anything with
CGI these days.

Her Dad is Thell Reed. When he was much younger he was a noted fast draw expert, and shot at the now legendary “Leatherslap” matches with Jeff Cooper and Jack Weaver, both of who had great influence on the modern technique of the pistol. Next to Arjo Ojalla, he was probably the best of the movie firearms trainers for westerns.
Back in the heyday of the B western they’d add the shot sound effect in editing because blanks were expensive. If you watch a budget western and hear shots but can’t see smoke, or the shooter or muzzle isn’t onscreen, it was probably an added sound effect.
Manslaughter charge for Alec Baldwin in ‘Rust’ set shooting
SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — Actor Alec Baldwin and a weapons specialist have been formally charged with involuntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a cinematographer on a New Mexico movie set, according to court documents filed by prosecutors Tuesday.
Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies filed the charging documents naming Baldwin and Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who supervised weapons on the set of the Western “Rust,” and outlined evidence that they deviated repeatedly from known safety standards.

Thanks for the mention.
In today’s era of CGI graphics and sound, they could make the scenes look very realistic.
A fascinating fact is that in very early westerns, star actors would have trick shooters who would shoot at them and hit rocks, etc… after they ducked usually with .22 rifles.
Probably some old Remington or Winchester rifles.
Cool...
I love 100 or so year old rimfires. They were built with the same quality of full size guns only smaller. My favorite is a a #4 Remington Rolling Block takedown in .22 short. It’s only about 3’ long, octagon barrel and perch belly stock. Still shoots great.
I grew up with 22 rifles in the home. You had to bear down
and be accurate to hit something. We were on a 120 acre farm.
Flash forward to the 1990s, and one of my co-workers invited
the crew out to shoot skeet. I was around 45 at the time.
I had almost no shotgun experience. I’d shot a single shot
or two out of a few, when I was about ten.
Shooting skeet, I may have missed one all afternoon.
My fellow employees couldn’t believe it.
Again, I'll defer to your expertise.
Thanks for your response.
I appreciate it.
You had no bad habits. The problem is when you go a few times and start thinking.
I was a skeet junkie for about 5 years. Managed a 97 with a .410 once. Switched to sporting clays and competed for a number of years then worked for the club as a target setter and instructor.
I think we were using a load that made it easier for me.
Sounds like you were very good to accomplish that.
I’ll bet you’ve seen a lot of very poor gun handling
over the years.
I practiced a lot and threw a ton of money at the sport. Some of each paid off.
Not as much bad gun handling at private ranges. Public, there have been some that I didn’t even get out of the car.
The Ukrainian parents and sister of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins filed a lawsuit on Thursday against Alec Baldwin and the producers of “Rust” in connection with her death in October 2021.
Attorney Gloria Allred announced the lawsuit at a press conference at her office on Thursday morning.

Cake and circuses, folks! Pay attention to this! Instead of that! (”That” being the information being released about the FBI’s deliberate actions against conservatives).
