Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates said on Sunday that a lot of the U.S.’s military aid to Ukraine “could have been done sooner.”
“I think the only thing I would have said is that a lot of this could have been done sooner,” Gates said when asked by Chuck Todd on NBC’s “Meet the Press” if he would have advised President Biden to do anything differently.
“And, you know, they’re talking about potentially being six months, a year or more before the Abrams tanks get there,” he added. “I think the key thing about the Abrams tank decision was that it unlocked the Germans.”

He is absolutely right. The US dithered. This is one of the failures of this administration.

He comments on other’s peoples decisions with 20/20 hindsight, but he NEVER looks at his own MASSIVE F-UP’s with the same reflection.
He Singlehandledly destroyed the Boy Scouts of America.
He could have said “hey, they are 12 year old kids, they shouldn’t be talking about ANYTHING Sexual. Don’t ask Don’t tell should work great”
Instead, he basically said “We tried Don’t ask Don’t tell in the Military, it didn’t work. Gay Scoutmasters, Gay kids need to be all let in and they need to be able to express their gayness, openly. What about girls? Sure, why not, let them join, too.”
He is terrible and makes terrible decisions. Descisions so bad, its like someone is making them for him.
I’m for the US supporting Ukraine against Russia, but this guy piping up is to be dismissed completely. He is a tool.
The Guy who destroyed the Boyscouts and will probably be the guy to decide to let men play women’s sports in the NCAA weighs in on stuff.

People in positions like that are often willing to play the one card they have.
Interesting map. I think that this would be a bad outcome for NATO. NATO wants to see Russia come out of this reduced and humiliated but still intact enough to hold down the fort in the rest of Asia. This map would mean we’re looking at a century-long sh*tstorm.
Personally I don’t think China is going to attack Taiwan. They’ll take it without a shot the way they did Hong Kong and Washington DC.

Great links. This talk of depleting NATO weapons stores seems silly to me. Who could seriously doubt the capacity of Germany, Britain, Japan and the USA to ramp up production of all kinds of weapons in munitions in short order? Let’s not forget France with its enormous industrial capacity. The point of the slow rollout of NATO support for Ukraine is to ramp up the printing presses and throw huge sums of money at the problem. We’ll out-produce Russia by a factor of 20 at least. If it comes down to a war of supply (like all wars in history) Russia loses hands down.

I keep hearing that. But cheap energy flowed until the Germans refused to allow Nordstream II to turn on the tap. Then Germany seized their Gazprom terminals and plants. Then Germany joined in cutting them off from banking and impounding their cash and gold. Then Germany refused to let that compressor refurbished in Canada to continue to on to Russia. And then to cap it off, and then we blew up both Nordstream lines and charge them 5 times the price for LNG we can barely deliver.
And the lesson you see in there, is that you cant count on Russia for gas delivery? Amazing disconnect.
The true lesson is that you cannot antagonize and refuse to pay your vendor and expect things to remain the same.
If it still escapes you, go to the nearest restaurant, refuse to pay, flip the tables, pick a fight with the manager and cook. Call him Hitler too. Go back the next day and sit down. Let me know how good the service is.
Yeah, because we are flush with money and firing up the printing presses is free money. Especially in inflationary times. We destroy our economy for the right of Kiev to ethnically cleanse eastern Ukraine.
