Agreed nb but should we ever point a gun at someone we aren’t intending to shoot?
Had it happened in the context of a movie scene with proper protocols being followed I wouldn’t have charged him. Just the armorer or whoever is responsible.
True conservatives will examine the abundance of evidence that has already been made public and feel free to voice their opinion about guilt or innocence regardless of politics while respecting the right of the judge or jury to render its own decision. Involuntary negligence is an appropriate charge for which he should be found guilty. Whether that's the final outcome remains to be seen, of course.
And people who live in reality world will know that when you aim any gun at another human and pull the trigger that there is a major chance that person will die.
And it is all your own fault.
It was murder.
Speak only for yourself.
I see "tit-for-tat" as a perfectly appropriate response to Leftists.
"True Conservatives" consistently lose because they pretend that if they follow "the rules", the Leftists will follow the same "rules". The Leftists never follow "the rules" if they are inconvenient. It is a mistake to give Leftists the benefit of the doubt and rationalize this as "due process".
Besides, even without my personal bias against Alec Baldwin, it is perfectly clear that he willfully violated long-established industry standard safety procedures for handling firearms on a set. The charge of "Involuntary Manslaughter" is a reasonble, minumum effort by the DA.
Yes, I would be very pleased if Alec Baldwin is convicted.
Innocent until proven guilty. That said, I personally think he contributed to these charges being filed. He should have expressed nothing but remorse and compassion, and kept a low profile. He's been anything but that. Being public on social media, asking people to help your wife to reach 1 million followers, doesn't do a whole lot to make people sympathetic.
Generally agree - though our politcal opponants are now becoming criminals by vitue of their existence... not umlike the Bolsheviks and Nazis.
I will not, however, refrain from projecting him guitly of putting his booger-picker on his trigger - while pointing a gun at another human being.
Obviously a very, very tragic accident, for all involved. Very unfortunate. I despise Baldwin for his politics, but I do enjoy some of his acting. I do find it somewhat interesting that it happened to such an anti-gun nut.
I feel it does highlight the hypocrisy of the left and the anti-gun movement, where someone is so anti-gun, until it comes to making his living. Nonetheless, I believe the charges were just, and I say let him have his day in court. I doubt he will see the inside of a jail cell, quite frankly. Then again, I didn't see him facing any charges, either.
I agree. Question really is who put a real bullet in that gun? Baldwin didn’t. Was the intention to kill her or to frame him?
“True conservatives will refrain from projecting Alec Baldwin guilty simply because we rightly find his politics repugnant.”
True gun nuts will find him guilty because he violated several of the most basic rules of gun safety.
First, he did not check to ensure that it was not loaded himself. That is rule #1. A gun is always loaded until and unless you have checked it yourself. Second, he pointed it at a person.
Rule #2 is that you do not point a gun at anything you do not intend to destroy. He pointed it at a person!!!
Rule #3 is to keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot. His claiming the gun “just went off” is BS. He had his finger on the trigger or it would not have gone. It’s a single-action revolver. You have to cock the hammer before you can fire, and pull the trigger to fire it.
If he had dropped it and it fired, that would be possible. Even if it was not cocked. And I wouldn’t be blaming him for an accidental death. But he pointed it at a person, cocked the hammer back, and pulled the trigger. None of those things is an accident. AT BEST they are total negligence.
The National Shooting Sports Foundation has their version of the four basic rules of firearms safety here: https://www.nssf.org/articles/4-primary-rules-of-firearm-safety/
They have the rules out of order from what I learned. You have to pick up the gun first. THAT is when you check it. While also following their rule #1, my rule #2, of keeping it pointed in a safe direction.
It’s probably not Murder in the 1st Degree, but it’s at least negligent homicide.
OS
I do in fact think he is guilty because the evidence I have read supports that conclusion.
However, to address your point, a bon chat, bon rat.
I don’t project him guilty because of his politics.
I project him guilty because he pointed a gun at someone and pulled the trigger.
