Can you imagine being a Soviet sailor taking a leake over the side and see a periscope watching you piss?
There is a sub built by the Danes (I think) that uses fuel cells for power and is so quiet that it can routinely pop up in the middle of US carrier groups. The US has borrowed it to study it.
