You just can’t be serious about being fiscally conservative without deep cuts in entitlement spending. You can cut all foreign aid and military and it won’t be a drop in the bucket compared to SS/Medicare.
It’ll happen one way or another, the only way for the geezers to escape it is to die first. This ponzi scheme will eventually collapse.
Ok now do EBT, WIC, Medicaid, TANF, HEAP, TAP, PELL, Legal Aid, CSEU, Section 8...
I’d like to see an actuary run the numbers on a “no new customers” approach on SS:
Pick a cutoff day.
-Anyone already on SS continues as usual w/COLA.
-Anyone who paid in and not retired yet, gets what they would based on what they’ve paid so far when they retire, using same calculations w/annual adjustments/COLA as always.
-Anyone who hasn’t paid in yet, gets nothing.
-Money needed at the tail end when the fund runs out comes from general fund.
-As the number of people in and to be in the plan diminishes, so does the number of gov employees working in the program.
How long does the SS fund last w/this method?
No changes to SS, like any other socialist program, means it just grows without bound. People eventually have to choose between their government check and totalitarianism.
Before you go considering the myth about mass unskilled labor saving Medicare and Social Security, what you need to consider is stopping under-the-table cash payments and use of ITINs as a means for wage payments in lieu of a W-2.
The second thing you need to consider is chain migration of old people who are relatives of newly migrated entrants and allowing them to take advantage of reciprocal retirement accounts/systems in order to get on Social Security.
The third thing you need to consider is the strain placed on local, state and federal support systems (i.e., schools and the increased numbers of teachers, strain on school meal programs, and strain on local county healthcare support systems).
Some employers see the national and business benefits from matching Social Security contributions for their employees. Other employers (and some government administrators) would rather see a U.S.A. that is more like the “old country” of their recent ancestors’ past.
Another consideration that might help is that most legal resident immigrants work and pay into Social Security. Many of them earn and contribute much.
I’m pretty sure this is completely false. Social Security (FICA) taxes are supposedly paid into a trust fund, but that trust fund (remember Al Gore’s infamous “lock box” proposal from the 2000 campaign) has been raided for years to cover up deficits in other areas of the Federal government.
Gut/privatized and then get rid of the Stark laws/regulations. Next, hammer insurance companies and the medical industrial complex in driving cost down. Only insure catastrophic care, the rest through basic supply/demand plus a reasonable price point. Competition will figure that out. These massive up-charges are caused by Medicare/insurance. Again, quit stealing from the future, you are using debt policies to get subsidized via compound interest and inflation which you don't pay into. Also you are propping up big government which leads to more. You can't cherry pick huge programs that require a large amount of resources to operate/oversee like SS and Medicare/Medicaid, the masses will just clamor for more. You also can't cherry pick what the voters want, especially the majority that want a strong central government and the policies/programs you want to get rid of.
“Seniors in my family and friends - registered Republicans - will vote against a Republican party that “can’t afford” to fund Social Security for Americans but can afford to fund Zelensky pension in Ukraine.”
So true. Republican politicians need to stop lying awake at night trying to think up ways to be stupid.
Illegals and immigrants shouldn’t get money from Social Security
People who don’t pay in for a min of 30 years shouldn’t receive, unless they filled jointly(married)
Every year you live on the government between 18-65 adds one year to qualify for Social Security. (10 years on welfare means 75 for benefits)
That fixes part of the solvency, but unless the people force a balanced budget amendment, you won’t fix the inflation that will kill it anyway.
Amen to that.
We don’t have elections anymore.
Dear Stephen,
Open borders is your program. Its those of SS that have to pay because of your ideology.
50% tax on remittances to fund SS.
The debts of the past will destroy the future.
Fixed it.
Love Steve Miller!
diversity and open borders are the sledgehammers the communists used to tear down Western Christendom. And now here we are with tranny story hour and communists ruling over us.
