In a just society he'd have an appointment with the hangman before month's end.

Potato Justice.
are the courts that backlogged that it takes five months just to have a preliminary hearing?

No. The defendant wanted the June date.
“are the courts that backlogged that it takes five months just to have a preliminary hearing?”
Defense requested the delay. In the OP.
"In court, Kohberger, 28, waived his right to a speedy probable cause hearing within 14 days.
A public defender, Anne Taylor, said that they needed time to review the details for the case."
That buys our boy six months in Latah County Jail instead of Death Row in the maximum security facility south of Boise. From the sound of things that’s about all it buys him.
Meet you back here in six months, then.😉
“Idaho murders suspect Bryan Kohberger appears in court with cuts and bruises on face, neck”
It will take 5 days of testimony to determine reasonable cause? Gimme a break. It’s a high profile case and the prosecutors, defense and the judge will all be grandstanding, hoping for their 15 minutes of fame.
So he’s relying on a public pretender to represent him? He might as well resign himself to a life in prison. I would have thought some big guns would have taken him on pro bono.
Will he be held in (a very secure) jail until then?
I expect to see him get off. His parents, or at least his father, who drove him back to PA from WA, obviously know that he did it but they appear to have gotten top attack dog attorneys ($$$) and for some reason sometimes it seems to me that the press is almost sympathetic to him.
Creepy.

They probably don’t want to waste their time because of the DNA.
He has a public defender.
While not a child molester I don’t think this guy would fare very well in the general pop at the State Pen.
Looks like he tried to hang himself.
“I would have thought some big guns would have taken him on pro bono.”
I think not too many lawyers are going to be chomping at the bit to take a case they are just about guaranteed to lose.
