I live in a college town next to a bus route. Before Covid, the buses were always packed during the morning and afternoon commutes. For 2 years that bus route had almost no passengers. It is not much better now. My guess is everybody is still working from home or driving in. Morning road traffic has been back to normal for quite some time.
Same here in NYC. Before Covid, the trains and buses that I rode were packed. For 2 years they were empty; I always had plenty of seats, even during the proverbial rush hour.
Now they're filling up again -- however, mostly with immigrants or SJW types. Or bums sleeping on the seats or mumbling to themselves (or stinking up the cars!).
Few professionals, even blue-collar, or Wall Street types. Everyone looks like they're dressed for the beach or laundry room. Many of the wealthy whites fled permanently; they are presumably working remotely or driving in.
The trains have gotten so depressing. I feel like I'm traveling in a 3rd World country.
