(ATLANTA, Ga.) — Governor Brian Kemp announced today that Qcells, one of the largest and most-recognizable renewable energy operations, will spend over $2.5 billion to expand solar manufacturing in Georgia. It will build a new facility in Cartersville, and add a third facility to its existing campus in Dalton.
Over 2,500 jobs will be created for North Georgia, and the completed facilities will bring Qcells’ total solar panel production capacity to 8.4 gigawatts by 2024.

The solar panels are still designed in Germany, and are currently manufactured in China, Malaysia or South Korea with their German managed Quality Assurance processes covering all plants. They are headquartered in Seoul, South Korea.

Kemp is constantly feted for bringing in businesses to Georgia. He picks very rural areas for these projects and then they put strain on local infrastructure and brings rapid development to an area. Property prices then sky-rocket and the locals are priced out of buying property in the area. Liberals from the northern and western states then move in and bring their voting habits with them. Interesting. LG *USED TO BE* the world leader in quality solar panels, and they manufactured millions of them in a factory in Huntsville, AL.
Then they ABRUPTLY abandoned the business at the beginning of last summer.
Now this NEW south Korean solar panel company is booming in the US.
Odd to me.

Nonesense. You’re just repeating the woke ‘gentrification’ argument in order to bash Kemp. Most of us here in GA like economic developement and the jobs development brings.
But I could find exactly zero information on which LG panels were made in Huntsville. Some LG panels were made in South Korea.

Yep. Whether or not FReepers agree, solar is growing fast and it works. Those panels are going to be built somewhere, why be stupid and let it all default to other countries. The states with the most business-friendly climate will be the greatest beneficiaries of “Made in America” and reshoring.
For those who don’t like solar: don’t put it on your house.

And the only reason gas is around 60% is because most back-up power generation (needed for "renewables" when sun doesn't shine and wind doesn't blow) is that gas-powered generation often sits idle, waiting to back up renewables.

I know plenty of Georgians who disagree with you. Used to be a nice place. Not anymore.
I know several people with solar panels on their property that are entirely self sufficient, and even store excess in battery generators. They do pay a small fee to stay connected to the power company, but you can install a switch that separates the two so that you are in control of when the power company comes into your house.
It is really amazing how self sufficient some of these properties have become.
That should be a very conservative thing to appreciate. Not every energy approach is some form of leftist garbage.
It’s when you are forced to that it becomes a problem.

Our solar installation works quite well for us.
We did initially limit the size to 10kW so we could participate in net metering. But the Ga Power lobbyists got that changed to monthly net metering and it’s now kinda useless, so ... probably gonna expand to about 42-44 kW. And add a second 10 kWh battery. That’ll make us essentially fully self-providing (except for the cloudiest winter days).
