Putin’s Efforts to Divide the West Over Ukraine Fall Flat
The New York Times ^ | 9th January 2023 | Max Fisher

Posted on 01/09/2023 8:00:08 AM PST by Cronos

A cease-fire proposal seemingly aimed at splintering Western unity has instead been met with Western escalation, underscoring Moscow’s diplomatic struggles.

...Analysts typically share this view, saying that such proposals tend to come when a pause would most benefit Russia’s battlefield position, not when they might further peace talks or aid civilians.

Sure enough, even as President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia promised a unilateral pause in some areas, there was little indication of such on the ground, where fighting continued as normal.

This offer was also probably intended as an act of propaganda, aimed at the Russian public and particularly at the Orthodox Church leaders whose support the Kremlin relies on.

..Western states have been seen as generally unified in backing Ukraine in the war and have even taken this support further than many analysts expected.

France’s president, Emmanuel Macron, had in the weeks before Russia’s invasion presented himself as the intermediary between Moscow and other Western capitals. But now he has emerged as one of Ukraine’s most assertive military backers.

Last week Mr. Macron announced that France would deliver armored fighting vehicles to Ukraine’s military. It was yet another escalation in Western military support to Ukraine and another instance of Western leaders’ ignoring Russian warnings against such direct involvement.

As if to underscore how little success Mr. Putin has found in opening cleavages within the West, on the same day that he announced this past weekend’s cease-fire, Washington and Berlin announced that they, too, would supply Ukraine with armored fighting vehicles.

...“If Putin wanted peace,” Germany’s foreign minister, Annalena Baerbock, wrote last week on Twitter in response to Russia’s cease-fire proposal, “he would take his soldiers home and the war would be over.”

I do not support Russia nor Ukraine - I oppose this conflict period. I also oppose the fact that all we see and hear is predominately from Ukraine....Kiev primarily. And it’s well known even those closest to Zelensky said they do and will lie without any regrets because that’s how Ukraine operates.

I don’t give two hoots who you or others support. This was never and still isn’t a conflict that should be supported by anyone. It’s a dang shame the US and other nations got envolved LONG before Russia went into Ukraine.

You support the enemy, the “conflict” is an invasion by that enemy.

I hope our troops over there don’t endure much winter cold as they work to supply our side with equipment and ammo.

You cannot speak for me - you do not have that right ansel. I've made it clear from the beginning and before this conflict never had to happen, there were plenty of options available to prevent it.

However true to form for ‘Ukraines entire history’ they cannot function apart from conflict in their country and among each other. They never pay their own way and even their public laughs that Ukraine always gets new buildings and advances economically when they have conflicts.

Ukraine isn’t attacking anyone, they are fighting for their lives against the military that you are supporting.

That is why our American men and women are over there and working to support the Ukrainians while defending us from further Russian invasions.

No American GIs are in the fighting but they and the rest of NATO are on the fringes protecting you and me from the Russian war machine and aiding the small European nation that Russia is currently trying to conquer.

American Patriots don’t give a rats behind for Ukraine or Russia. They are not part of our country. They are Europe’s problem.

It’s the Ukes bombing their own people that is the problem. They can’t shoot straight without foreign help.

I don’t even know what that childish cartoon means.

Send it to our GIs defending us from Russia and explain to them why you oppose them and support the Russians instead.

They aren’t defending us from anyone. Cut out the nonsense. They are being used for the NWO. Not America.

I wish they were here defending us from the commie takeover of America that is going on.

LOL, I hardly think that our forces in Europe and our 30 nation alliance keeping Europe stable is “nonsense”.

Trump’s aggressive actions in Europe were serious stuff, bringing back V Corps and moving it to Poland to get it closer to the enemy, arming Ukraine, and prodding other NATO nations to disengage from Russia and arm-up were very real.

Is this your way of continuing a conversation that I've clearly said NO to furthering.....you asked for an explanation - I said no. End of story. Furthermore it does end here and now.
