Will Speaker McCarthy deliver on commitments to his 20 opponents?

In what has been the most dramatic election for Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives in a hundred years, final culmination came on the fifteenth ballot with the election of Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

The election however did not come without McCarthy’s historic commitment  to a heroic band of 20 opponents who negotiated substantial policy initiatives as well as procedural rule changes that will transform the role of the Speaker from a dictatorial empire-builder, and with it, make the House of Representatives into a more self-governing representative body.

In a series of ground-breaking agreements, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) who emerged as one of the final six still standing, explained that McCarthy opponents had “delivered a massive victory for the American people by fundamentally changing the way Congress will operate.”  Boebert cited the way bills will be passed, the way the government will be funded and the way committees will be formed” - saying all will be dramatically changed while eliminating proxy voting, securing votes on term limits, a fair tax, and the Texas Border Plan

Upon being sworn in, McCarthy announced that the first order of business for the 118th Session of Congress will be repeal of the 87,000 armed IRS agents who are on the trail of the American public, which was met with unanimous agreement within Republican ranks.

The first test of McCarthy’s commitments as Speaker will be adoption of an agreed-to Rules package which adds three new Members to the influential Rules Committee, as well as an essential Motion to Vacate, which offers the necessary leverage to assure that commitments made will be commitments kept.

I may not change them but I am not going to attack anyone or demean them for holding those views. I will just disagree. That doesn’t make me evil or something.>>>>>>>>>>>>>

No . it makes you a citizen as assumed by our Founders.

BUt to the woke crowd.....you become eminently cancel-able.So it is not enough to keep just to our pen. At times the pen must become a sword, using satire, just as the pamphleteers of old like Ben Franklin and Thomas Paine did.

Then, especially then, the cancel culture woke crowd cannot cancel you. They loose it when confronted by satire and wit, exposing their rank anger and shallow thinking.

Mind you I laud your restraint and kindness, but there are times when one’s pen must become a sword.

Here is Franklin. Good to read, inspires a person to get up to all sorts of trolling, LOL:

Oh I’ve heard of it all right. It is somewhat disheartening that censorship or silencing of any “incorrect” thinking is part of of any site. It is further concerning if a site that is supposedly dedicated to conservative discussion to practice the very type of censorship that everyone decries. And make no mistake...it is censorship no matter how you dress up the language.

If people wish to ignore anything that doesn’t fit into their narrative on issues then pray tell how does one reach any kind of consensus on how to organize against anything? I’ll stack my conservative views up against anyone. But I certainly won’t shirk from expressing my opinion on issues that effect us all and what I think on those issues.

I don’t see much organizing here frankly. I do see people attacking each other instead of considering a view and how it might effect the conservative movement. It is one thing to complain about something and another to suggest a course of action. Calling people traitors because they might not hew to someones exact view is totally uncalled for and over the top.

This whole nonsense of liberal verses conservative is why we have some of the problems we have today. Yes I know there are differing approaches in govt. to solving problems. But in the end We the People are the ones who need to insure those problems and issues are solved and we only divide ourselves further by this incessant tribal name calling.

The has been and will continue to be a political tension in this country as long as we let special interests and politicians ferment that tension. I for one will not be taken in by that and will work to the best of my ability to insure this country continues to thrive and provide for its people.

I am an American first...period. Not a sheep to be led.

I agree with you there. It's probably why I reached out to you, to make sure you understood the rules of the road here. I don't always toe the group think line myself either, and I think it's best we don't. I think we are more in a war between those who want freedom, and those who want power at the expense of our freedom, than R vs D. But freedom does not mean getting things for free, or that you can break the laws of nature by changing your sex yourself. Stick to that and maybe you'll be ok.

I agree...

I’ll check out that link. I have always found what Franklin wrote thru out his life to hold many pearls of wisdom that are as applicable today as they were when he wrote them.

Well put and thanks for the input. I am not always the most articulate in expressing my opinion. And yes I am sure there are folks who think I’m a subversive...:) But the same opinion was probably prevalent among the Loyalists when Thomas Paine published his opinions and we know what that led too.

I have always had a anti-authoritarian streak and a anti-group think streak as well. And it has gotten me in trouble more than once.
