UPDATE posted around 12:36 am EST:
Kevin McCarthy won the House speakership during the 15th round of voting this week which began late Friday night and spilled over into Saturday after the clock struck midnight. He earned 216 votes.
Andy Biggs of Arizona, Eli Crane of Arizona, Bob Good of Virginia, and Matt Rosendale of Montana, who had previously voted against McCarthy in the first 14 rounds, each voted present in the 15th round, which lowered the threshold McCarthy needed to secure victory — Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Matt Gaetz of Florida, who had switched to present in the 14th vote, voted present again for the 15th round.
Original story below:
For the 14th time this week, Kevin McCarthy has come up short in his quest to clinch the House speakership.
He came closer than he had all week by earning 216 votes — he would have locked up a win if he had been able to reach 217.
Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Matt Gaetz of Florida, who had previously voted against McCarthy in the first 13 rounds, voted present during the 14th vote.
Andy Biggs of Arizona, Eli Crane of Arizona, Bob Good of Virginia, Matt Rosendale of Montana, who had all voted against McCarthy on the first 13 rounds, voted against him again in the 14th round.
A group of more than a dozen Republicans voted against McCarthy in 11 votes this week, including three votes on Tuesday, three on Wednesday, and five on Thursday. Nineteen Republicans opposed McCarthy in the first two votes, but that number increased to 20 when Byron Donalds of Florida, who had voted for McCarthy twice, switched and voted against McCarthy on the third vote.

So much for draining the swamp, we got a water moccasin now in charge.
Are you in favor of the Rules package?
Why even oppose if you’re going to eventually cave? It’s worse than never opposing at all.
I have every expectation that the RINOs and democrats will not be held to anything. Spending will continue to be out of control and this country will go bankrupt.
Actually, haven’t read through the whole thing yet, but so far it looks OK. The problem is, how many times have they already set ‘rules’ and then broken them?
Meet the new bosses. Same as the old bosses.
And 5-time loser Trump leading them all.....
“5 time loser”? That’s Creepy Joe who run for President so many times only to lose.
President Trump won the very first time he run as a Republican after a lifetime in business.
Try and top that.
“Mitch McConnell, Kevin McCarthy and Ronna Romney McDaniel.
Meet the new bosses. Same as the old bosses.”
So effing true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We need to start shooting and I don’t think Americans are read for that yet,
At least we still have guns,
2018 Midterm loss
2020 Loss
2020 Special Election Georgia - 2 losses
2022 Midterm loss
2022 Special Election Georgia - loss
All while Trump was the leader of the party with his chosen people as Chair.
Well at least three democrats didn’t get to celebrate their new j6 holiday
Let the spending of our Great-Great-Grandchildren’s money began.
There are enough RINOs in the House that the Democrats effectively hold the majority.
Watch an “Equality Act” get passed by this house.
“Why even oppose if you’re going to eventually cave? It’s worse than never opposing at all.”
Well, if you get concessions, then it’s not really caving, and it’s better than never opposing at all - at least in theory. But we’ll have to see if McCarthy honors his commitment. Even if he does, he can always find new ways to stab us in the back.
Um, NOPE.
Where was this “effective” Democrat “majority” when the voting for The Speaker was going on? All 15 times? I didn't see it.
It began long ago.
A Phyrric victory for the swamp.
Ridiculous. It was about the debt ceiling, the Omnibus, the rule changes, it was about being recognized as elected members of a governing body whom KM ignores and worse it is about KM undermine incumbents elections and giving money to and supporting their challengers. Ultimately, it is about trust. KM has been so dishonest and unreliable that these members could not trust him to do the job, rightfully so. I am glad they stood their ground and concessions that will help our Cingress run more effectively for the people. BTW: It was stated that they did not ask for anything for themselves
We need more fighters like them.
