UPDATE posted around 12:36 am EST:
Kevin McCarthy won the House speakership during the 15th round of voting this week which began late Friday night and spilled over into Saturday after the clock struck midnight. He earned 216 votes.
Andy Biggs of Arizona, Eli Crane of Arizona, Bob Good of Virginia, and Matt Rosendale of Montana, who had previously voted against McCarthy in the first 14 rounds, each voted present in the 15th round, which lowered the threshold McCarthy needed to secure victory — Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Matt Gaetz of Florida, who had switched to present in the 14th vote, voted present again for the 15th round.
Original story below:
For the 14th time this week, Kevin McCarthy has come up short in his quest to clinch the House speakership.
He came closer than he had all week by earning 216 votes — he would have locked up a win if he had been able to reach 217.
Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Matt Gaetz of Florida, who had previously voted against McCarthy in the first 13 rounds, voted present during the 14th vote.
Andy Biggs of Arizona, Eli Crane of Arizona, Bob Good of Virginia, Matt Rosendale of Montana, who had all voted against McCarthy on the first 13 rounds, voted against him again in the 14th round.
A group of more than a dozen Republicans voted against McCarthy in 11 votes this week, including three votes on Tuesday, three on Wednesday, and five on Thursday. Nineteen Republicans opposed McCarthy in the first two votes, but that number increased to 20 when Byron Donalds of Florida, who had voted for McCarthy twice, switched and voted against McCarthy on the third vote.

McCarthy will soon backstab Trump again How so?
Trump is not President and nobody in DC can sop Trump from getting nominated in 2024. Trump's main opposition comes from Florida (DeSantis).
And Trump has vastly more money than McCarthy.

The chamber ended up voting for McCarthy as Speaker.
Republicans WON.

Which is how its supposed to be.
We've had far longer votes in The House for Speaker before and the country went on just fine after that.

Well, if you don’t know you never will.

There will be plenty of investigations and embarrassment for the Democrats, with the very tough Jim Jordan leading a lot of them.
And prosecutions will come from some tough red state AGs like from Texas and Florida.

We've had far longer votes in The House for Speaker before and the country went on just fine after that. This many votes for the same candidate, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over?

Your post #149 didn't make much sense.
And this one makes even less sense. Try again. And don't talk in riddles.

The holdouts were holdouts for differing political reasons and never had even a shred of a plan to get anyone else in the chair. I don't think you're looking at it in the right way.
It's no different than when they pass giant omnibus bills at funding deadlines or "the government will shut down." They create the crisis and then load up the "must-pass" bill with things they could never get passed otherwise.
The 20 holdouts were just using the swampy playbook against them. They used the "crisis" of the Speaker's vote to get things they could never get otherwise "or the government will never get seated."
this was all about grabbing a political spotlight instead of a real effort, and therefore a waste of a few precious days.
It was a "good for the gander" plan that finally caught the goose at their own game.

Its not hard to find.

Pelosi has been Speaker for 4 years, after Paul Ryan lost.
McCarthy has been minority leader for 4 years. Sop gas lighting.

He was calling the 20 hold-out telling them to give it up. Isn't it more like he was calling and telling them that they got what they came to negotiate for and that it was time to close the negotiations and seal the deal?

It was Democracy in action.
You negotiate and play hardball and give/make some concessions till the voting decides the final outcome.
McCarthy was forced to make some concessions but then Gaetz did not get everything he wanted either.
You can't win with 20 votes when 216 to 218 votes are needed.

Oh puleeze!
Trump is not in the White House and nobody in DC is going to stop President Trump from winning the Republican nomination.
Biggest threat comes from DeSantis in Florida, not from McCarthy.

LOL! Thanks for defending my honor.
He actually accused ME of being a “Dem troll”. ME!
