So, I am now watching the opening session of the U.S. House of Representative. First order of business is the election of a Speaker of the House. I've got my popcorn.

I expect after a Mexican stand off goes on for awhile they will draft Steve Scalise. Or maybe after some recess negotiations that don’t go well. Kevin looks a little sweaty.

It’s more about votes departing McC, than going towards Jordon.
McC is toast now... just a matter of time (and more defections).

Kevin looks a little sweaty.Every time I see him he is flashing that nervous smile.

Maybe :-) There is some talk on Truth of Pompeo riding in too. I still think McCarthy will win. I just wonder if he will publicly sell out to the democrats to do it (as they throw votes his way by leaving the chamber) or if he will suck it up and meet the MAGA republican demands. I am just so so so very pleased to watch hardball *finally* being played well.

Was that McCarthy feeling a little distracted right there?

A compromise candidate would make sense but Scalise... not my fist choice. Smells too much like McCarthy, same comparison as Ryan and Boehner.
IOW please, no.

So what? The SC has ruled it unconstitutional as a state law and there is ZERO chance of it passing at the federal level.
And let's get something else on the record here. This is not the "MAGA Wing" or the "Conservative Wing" fighting against the establishment here. There's a reason Marjorie Taylor Greene, Donald Trump Jr., and Jim Jordan are calling these idiots out on their BS. This is a bunch of way too online prima donnas who want their own little carve-outs regarding committee and subcommittee assignments. At this point, McCarthy would be nuts to give in to them.
As an added bonus, I guess we know how bad it is when even Sean Hannity is saying they look like idiots

I think what our fellow Freeper is saying is, McCarthy should pack it in if the vote tally goes any higher for Jordan. I agree. One more vote (20) and the damn will break. Jordan will just keep getting more and more per ballot and McCarthy is going to be really embarrassed. We don’t have the patience we used to where they could run 149 ballots like they did over a hundred years ago. We go past six and I’ll be surprised. Then again, I could be wrong as all get out...

If you watched the first vote all the reps had their children in there with them. Now as I look around noticing no kids, I was tempted to say that the children have left the room, but I would be wrong.
I can still see one girl fidgeting in the front row. This is historic, but very boring for kids.

Thank you. You’re one of the few here who seem to understand that there’s a divinely inspired method to this madness.

I’m keep thinking that the conservatives are trying to get enough defections that they can nominate another moderate who will work with them but be acceptable to the majority as well. I just keep thinking they are working their way to drafting Scalia’s or there’s another name floating around. McHenry from NC.
