Voters are not in a very Christmas-y mood when it comes to Washington’s punishment politics.
In fact, they’d like to see some payback.
While a majority of voters are OK with House Ways and Means Committee Democrats releasing former President Donald Trump’s federal income taxes, they also feel that what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
Asked in a new Rasmussen Reports survey if the incoming GOP House majority should release the taxes of Democrats who voted to reveal Trump’s taxes, 54% said yes.
And it wasn’t just Republicans, 63%, and independents, 53%, but included more Democrats than not. Rasmussen said that 45% of Democrats wanted the taxes of the Trump critics released to 38% who didn’t.
The partisan divide was much wider on the overall question of releasing Trump’s taxes, which is to be completed Friday by House Democrats. Some 53% said they approved of the release to 40% who disapproved.
Democrats especially were supportive, with 79% approving of the release. Among Republicans, 63% disapproved.

Bill and Hillary released their tax returns at some point, Obama released his as did both Bush’s.
I don’t know what’s right here. They’re public servants (cough) so it behooves them to show them- but- in another way- it’s none of our business.
They shouldn’t be surprised though, if now the public demands tax records from them all.
Maybe *EVERY* elected and appointed public official should be required to release their taxes, AND have themselves and all immediate family members audited in depth every year. Civil service (hired through normal channels) usually have their salary and benefits disclosed.
Any politician with a higher net worth anytime after taking office should be identified and given the full in-depth proctological treatment.
Democrat, Republican, Independent; we should trust NO ONE.
No politician, from Biden or Trump down to the local city councilman, should ever be treated as anything other than a probationary employee.
We hire these people, they work for US; I don’t give two shakes if they are a billionaire, or a brilliant lawyer, or have been a Senator for 40 years- they deserve not the slightest bit more trust, privacy, status, or dignity than the lowest part-time grocery store clerk or forklift driver.
I’d like to see a rule that *ALL* federal officials MUST travel commercial cattle class. Give the POTUS a couple of extra seats for the dude with the football and a secretary, no more. ‘Welcome Aboard, mister President, I’m sorry, but that carryon has to go through baggage.
Biden, and any following should not be treated one whit better than a Walmart checker.
Quote from a Wall Street Journal op ed:
“Mr. Trump isn’t unusual in aggressively claiming tax deductions—only in being the most scrupulously examined president ever, with no allegations yet that he achieved any of his or his family’s wealth through corruption. How many members of Congress can say the same?”
I’d rather voters seek revenge on all ComDems for turning the USA communist and making the FBI into the KGB. But that, alas, seems to not be in the cards.
None. Which is sickening. My heart goes out to the Trump family. They haven’t done anything but stand up to the DC cabal.
And this helps the House write legislation how???
A judge needs to slap a court order on these jerks and have them explain why they lied to ‘the court.’
But it will be a nothing burger. The media will pick out “TRUMP DIDN’T PAY ANY TAXES” like they did with the leaked taxes that ugly man on MSNBC was so giddy about. “TRUMP ONLY PAID $500 in taxes.” (leaving out the fact he over paid by millions the year before)
“Voters seek VENGEANCE on those that committed ELECTION FRAUD during the 2020 election
I want people in JAIL”
I’m thinking tall lampposts and a short piece of rope.
Nope. Anyone’s taxes can be released by this committee.
"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
“If the tax be not proposed for the common defence, or general welfare, but for other objects, wholly extraneous, (as for instance, for propagating Mahometanism among the Turks, or giving aids and subsidies to a foreign nation, to build palaces for its kings, or erect monuments to its heroes,) it would be wholly indefensible upon constitutional principles [emphases added].” — Justice Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution 2 (1833).
“Cherish, therefore, the spirit of our people, and keep alive their attention. If once they become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress and Assemblies, judges and governors, shall all become wolves [emphasis added]. It seems to be the law of our general nature.” - Thomas Jefferson (Letter to Edward Carrington January 16, 1787)
Unconstitutional federal taxes according to the excerpt from Gibbons v. Ogden above, arguably stolen state revenues, including money from citizens' wallets, are those taxes which the corrupt, post-17th Amendment ratification Congress cannot reasonably justify under its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited power and other constitutionally enumerated expenses.
The bottom line is that ALL the states desperately need to effectively "secede" from the unconstitutionally big federal government by repealing the 16th (direct taxes) and 17th (popular voting for federal senators) Amendments (16&17A).
If the repeal 16&17A amendment was strictly limited to that purpose, then relatively little or ideally no discussion would be needed before ratification imo.
Yikes
Why not demand Biden’s taxes? Surely, the Big Guy has receipts for all his assets? He should prove how he got rich legally on a Public servant’s salary.
“The average voter is an idiot.”
Idiot = democrat
Never thought it would come to this, but I think there should be some sort of test to qualify voters.
