I wonder where the margin ends? When will retailers be robbed beyond their margin for profit ... and get the heck out of Newsafornia.

I was surprised within the last week to see an auction of fixtures in a Walmart that closed in Nov.

It’s in a suburb of Pittsburgh.

When I looked at the items, one was the anti shoplifting gates.

Walmart doesn’t install those in everyone of their stores. Just where the shrinkage is off the chart.

Self-checkouts rely on the “honor system”. Few people have honor anymore.

And of course, certain tribes get a free pass on everything up to $900 per visit.

Speaking of which, here’s a South African invention to deter car break-ins. It’s called the Blaster, and evidently it’s legal in that country.

All you need is a manual transmission, that’s a built-in anti-theft device.

When I looked at the items, one was the anti shoplifting gates.

The Walmart Neighborhood Market near me put them in, then took them right back out. When it was first built, the beer, wine, and liquor (in New Mexico you can buy the hard stuff at grocery stores, pharmacies and gas stations) isle closest to the door. Then they blocked the cashiers' view of that isle with shelving. One night, a few months after they opened, I saw a group of five or six guys run out with armloads of liquor and suitcases of beer. I walked in and asked the lone cashier if she'd just sold a bunch of alcohol to a group of guys. Nope. Didn't even know they were there. Several years later and they've done nothing to fix it. I feel like a schmuck scanning my own groceries and paying for them when they don't even go after the actual thieves or even do things to counter the theft.

A big sign as you come in the store that says “Observed shoplifters will be shot on sight” even if not actually followed might slow it down.

"The National Retail Foundation is estimating that it lost $94.5 billion last year due to “shrink".

Just pocket change, according to Obiden.

The businessman has way more then his "fair share" of the money, so he can afford it...

It’s all part of reparations.

21% margins use to be the rule in grociers, it is now 9%.
43% margins in clothing are now 15%, electronics use to 40% now it is 7%. The retailers are not the ones with the profits anymore. You will note Target is in K Marts role and the high end in clothes run very lean shops more like Target use to be.

Exactly, stores need those signs saying, “you loot, we shoot”.

Too bad we can’t invoke sharia law and chop off hands and feet.

That's the image I had in mind when I posted. I'm just too lazy to create an online account from which to post images.

I'll bet that is a part of the snowballing. Some poor schmuck has $20 to pick up milk and bread and eggs and he has just heard about a perp walking away with $500 of re-sell items. It has to burn.
