The document included a disclaimer assuring staff and students that it does not intend to completely remove the words from its websites, noting that elimination is “a goal to strive for even if it can’t be achieved.”

‘Don’t you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it. Every concept that can ever be needed, will be expressed by exactly one word, with its meaning rigidly defined and all its subsidiary meanings rubbed out and forgotten. Already, in the Eleventh Edition, we’re not far from that point. But the process will still be continuing long after you and I are dead. Every year fewer and fewer words, and the range of consciousness always a little smaller.

The primary job of the Ministry of Truth was to supply the citizens of Oceania with

newspapers, films, textbooks, telescreen programmes, plays, novels -

with every conceivable kind of information, instruction, or entertainment,

from a statue to a slogan, from a lyric poem to a biological treatise,

and from a child's spelling-book to a Newspeak dictionary.

My children (Auto Engineer, M. Eng., and Nurse Practitioner, Vanderbilt '22) have basically disowned me, in no small measure, because I use Oldspeak and have no interest in Newspeak.

The Vandy grad is particularly insufferable. We cannot talk about anything, especially anything safe and effective. That school should be bulldozed.
