Jerry Garcia was embarrassed of his singing voice. But fans loved his creative work and did not dwell in the least on whatever singing shortcomings Garcia may or may not have had. What U2 fans ever bemoaned Bono’s poor singing? He has always sung with his heart.

It’s his parents’ fault for naming him Bono Vox (good voice).

“Everyone likes what they like. But I never understood why U2 was so big. Just don’t get it.”

In pop music, timing is everything.

J.J. Cale had a much better voice than Bob Dylan and I like him.

I’ve always loved U2 and Bono’s voice. A different vocalist wouldn’t have worked well with the band’s sound.

I remember at around the same time, Julia Roberts was considered absolutely beautiful. I see her in those old movies now and wonder - what were we thinking?

She was for a little while. She just went downhill so fast I think it caught us all by surprise.

There’s plenty of singers with imperfect voices and some I like. They have character that compensates.

I had no idea he was singing when he did that!

The Dead overall never thought of themselves as any great shakes, they played mostly for the fun of it. And yeah, they made a good buck. They could have charged a lot more for their concerts than they did but they didn’t and they let Dead Heads tape their shows, something no rock group ever allowed.

Garcia’s voice was once described as ‘’sepia tinted’’.

His singing on “Ripple’’’ however was nice.

“Ripple’’ is a beautiful little tune. One of the sweetest songs ever written.

I remember my father playing Joshua Tree repetitively in the late 80s. I also remember “The sweetest thing” from the late 90s. Maybe I would feel differently if I hadn’t grown up with them, but I have a lot of nostalgic memories of their music.

I’d put Bob Dylan in this category too. Brilliant songwriter and a lot of singers and bands have done nice covers of his tunes, but his nasal, monotone voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

I thought that that was the whole point!

For me, Michael Bolton would top the list
of deplorable crooners.

They were a political rebel band at the start which gave them momentum and notoriety

He probably saw how another Bono (Sonny) had a pretty good singing career as a guy who couldn’t sing.
