I never read it, just knew it from the ethos.
John Holmes is little compared to me...
:)
I was very little when I read Crime and Punishment.
His massive EGO.
Bob Dylan? Bruce Springsteen ? AC/ DC wailer? On and on.
Slick Willie Nelson?
Are you sure Springsteen even knew Sonny?
October, the leaves are still bare…
Oops, stripped bare…
U2 music has not held up well. I heard ‘The streets have no name’ today - awful. Bono is a puker. On the other hand Blondie (Debbie Harry) has held up spectacularly well.
For me it was The Unforgettable Fire and Joshua Tree albums that was the pinnacle.
Maybe Bob Dylan.
“Even his parents dismissed the idea, but his yowling has sold so many records that he has mistaken himself for a great rock star”
He is a great rock star. And who cares if he can sing or not?
Tom Petty never had a great voice, but if you want to say Petty wasn’t a rock star, you’re just ignorant of the genre. I don’t like Bono’s political views, and don’t think I’ve bought any of their albums, but U2 and Bono have been succesful over decades. It’s not like Bono or U2 just accidentaly had a hit or two.
"Lay Lady Lay" from that album is about the only song I'd give him a pass on.
I loved their live album recorded at Red Rocks. And Achtung Baby and Zoo Station. After that I lost them..... If nothing else they have shown amazing longevity, I started listening to them in .. 1983.
Anyone who think Bono cannot sing very, very well is...well...stupid.
And devoid of discerning taste.
Yes his politics can be wacky—though he’s come around quite a bit recently—but there’s no denying the man can sing. This simple live acoustic performance is awesome:

I saw U2 in concert at the Hollywood Palladium in 1981, I think. It was a good show. But I lost interest a few years later when they became huge stars.
