How could an American court have had jurisdiction over this in the first place?

You beat me to it. The lawsuit should have been tossed on the grounds that U.S. courts have no jurisdiction in a criminal matter in Turkey where the victim and the perpetrators were Saudi nationals.

Bingo. Filing a lawsuit like this is simple virtue signaling. It had to be a random occurrence, but BeijingBiden actually did something right.
