Territory that’s been seized from [Ukraine] since February 24th" obviously does not include Crimea which Russia 'seized' in 2014. This then is a significant shift in the position Blinken had earlier underlined.

Words normally do mean things, but from this administration, they cant really be counted on to mean anything.

Realization that Russia will never give up Crimea, which was annexed without a fight in 2014 and a plebiscite that had more than 80% of the population, overwhelmingly Russian-speaking, voting to rejoin Russia.

Makes sense. If they’re not wasting money firing off expensive munitions, there’s more money available to come back to American politicians.

Ukraine, ask South Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq how their dependence on the US turned out.

Just as V. Putin and most the public had been expecting.
Just patiently wait for the ‘right’ American President to officially walk away from it.

Yep. Demographics aside, Crimea was actually part of Russia proper until the Soviets arbitrarily gave it to Ukraine in 1954. So it can be argued that Crimea really should belong to Russia.

Ukraine however is a far different story.

“a plebiscite that had more than 80% of the population, overwhelmingly Russian-speaking, voting to rejoin Russia.”

What percent of Kherson “voted” the same way to join Russia, only to joyfully welcome Ukrainian liberators a few weeks later.

Once war starts, the demographics and history don’t mean much.

The only question is if Russia can defend Crimea. One more push south and Ukraine will have fire control over every path in and out of the region.

Ukraine is already striking airfields n Russia proper. Their air defense is a joke.

Russia may get serious about declaring war on Ukraine, calling off the special operation. There 545,000-700,000 Russia soldiers poised to crush the Ukraine. Also, a statement from Belarus that essentially the two nations armies have merged. If you followed any news from independent journalists you would know once the ground freezes, time has run out for Ukrainian forces in the Donbas as well as the Luskans areas (forgive the misspelling of regions). Also, I believe from some of the build up that Odessa will be taken back by Russia. Essentially, all the cities that Catherine the Great built will be taken back as part of Russian territory.

Ukraine is losing 800-1000 men a day; over 400 in the Donbas region alone. Across all sectors, it adds additonal blood and amputations.

In Washington, and the West, there is a collective admission that Russia is going to be unstoppable in the Winter offensive. Russia will stop when they are ready. Ukraine’s energy and rail infrastructure is now in ruins.
