The U.S. Senate voted Thursday to pass a resolution imposing a contract on freight rail workers but rejected a concurrent measure that would give workers seven guaranteed paid sick days.
H.J. Resolution 100 passed the Senate by a margin of 80-15, surpassing the 60-vote threshold. The Biden Administration brokered a tentative deal in August between the unions and carriers, but rank-and-file members of four of the twelve unions in the deal rejected it. Paid sick leave for workers was a central hold-up to the deal moving forward.

Big business greased the wheels of congress in the 30s to institute the national labor relations act. It ended wildcat strikes and made it so only big business could deal with unions, thus putting the small guys out of business. Unions got a seat at the table, Big business shut down the little guy, and congress got paid. This is how our nation has always worked. Things won’t ever get any better.
Government should not be involved, IMO. Biden f’s up everything he gets into so he threw this latest fiasco to Congress. I would hope FJB would lose a lot of support over this, but it seems as long as there is a “D” after a corpse, criminal, demented pantload, that is what DemonRats will vote for ... the “D”.
That’s because they’re supposed to!
Teachers wildcat strike all the time even though they aren’t supposed to and they are never held accountable for doing such.
What is Biden going to do? Fire them like Reagan fired all of the air traffic controllers that were part of PATCO?
Those aren’t the only options. You are also bad at politics. They GOP should be all in for the workers and demanding the Ukraine money be used instead of being sent to Ukraine. Another option, go so far left on it the Rats would destroy thr government entirely if agreed.
congress to rail workers: you’re nothing more than slaves and you will like it.
Unfortunately, this was the only solution that could be enacted in time to prevent a strike starting 12/09. A rail strike would seriously damage the economy even further.
The Democrats voted to override union votes. How will those unions retaliate?
Ditto.
And, didn’t they just receive a 25% raise, a couple of months ago, thanks to Brandon?
The silly rail workers might pull a wildcat strike, regardless of what Congress has to say about it. They’d show the courage of their convictions by going to jail over them. Only the rails would still be stopped.
Well, yeah, of course.
Only one Democrat voted against the measure to give them paid sick leave, whereas 206 Republicans voted that way.
Regardless of what we all think of the union’s position, there’s no way to spin this into a scenario where the GOP was supportive of it. None.
Only 6 GOP Senators voted for the measure.
I know Bernie the Red was up in arms about Buffet making so much while refusing the sick time, does anyone know if our favorite little commie voted for it or not?
Do government workers?
I think I need more coffee this morning. The 206 GOP votes where obviously recorded in the House of Representatives and I believe reflect the vote on the entire bill.
The 1 Democrat vote was recorded in the Senate, and was not about the entire bill, but on the measure to add paid sick leave to the bill. Only 6 GOP Senators supported it, and the vote required 10 to do so, (well, 11 since Manchin was voting against).
I wasn’t very clear because I was combining the two bodies of congress, and what was actually voted on.
Yet they're almost as skilled as the RATs at grifting.
>Under the 1935 NLRA (National Labor Relations Act), federal courts have ruled that wildcat strikes are illegal, and that employers have the right to dismiss workers who participate in them.<
Railroad and Airline unions are governed by the Railway Labor Act of 1926(RLA). It is quite different in that contracts never expire. They just become amendable.
No union governed by the RLA can strike unless it is approved by the National Mediation Board (NMB). Even then it may be delayed by 60 days through a Presidential Emergency Board (PEB).
The three members of the NMB are presidential appointees. One is an Obozo appointee, one a Bidone appointee, and the third a Trump appointee.
The D’s owned this strike. All Bidone’s PEB did was push it out past the midterms.

Yup. Thanks for the additional details.
Rail employees also get their own Federal backed pension which is much more generous than Social security.
One leaking air hose between rail cars can lock the brakes on the whole train. It can take hours to figure out which hose is leaking on a train well over a mile long.
