The U.S. Senate voted Thursday to pass a resolution imposing a contract on freight rail workers but rejected a concurrent measure that would give workers seven guaranteed paid sick days.
H.J. Resolution 100 passed the Senate by a margin of 80-15, surpassing the 60-vote threshold. The Biden Administration brokered a tentative deal in August between the unions and carriers, but rank-and-file members of four of the twelve unions in the deal rejected it. Paid sick leave for workers was a central hold-up to the deal moving forward.

Silly rail workers ! Dirt people don’t get paid sick leave only elite gubmint workers , heh .
So they (Congress) tell the rail workers they have to go back to work with no Sick Days each year ... this coming from people who spend half or more of their time on vacation.
I foresee a “slow down” in rail transport coming very soon.
Republicans suck at politics
I hope the union members are paying attention and realizing finally that it’s always all about the oligarchs who already have most of the money. It’s never about the people like they always claim.
And the union idiots will keep voting for democrats.
congress made the law. Let congress enforce it.
(How many congressional idiots can drive a train?)
I hope they still strike. Tell the eff’n government to go to hell.
Who are the 15?
This. To quote Golda Meir (in another context, of course), the Republicans "never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity."
I would like to see a list of their current benefits.
If they are getting 6-8 weeks of PTO, it should be known.
Yup, The Biden Grinch (Binch?) saved Christmas.
And unions members will continue to vote D despite getting screwed.
Work to rule. Slow down the train until you run out of hours and abandon said train in an inconvenient spot. (happened to my folks in Utah and I found a train blocking the road for me one day.)
only CONgress and their peasant goober mint workers get paid sick leave, because of their hard physical work they do screwing the tax payer out of their money.
It happens all the time around here, blocking roads in a close by town.
Republicans suck at politics
Be interesting to see what happens next as far as the railroad workers are concerned. Management/labor relations in the rail industry have be very bad for well over a century.
If they strike now that Congress has passed their imposed contract, it will be considered a Wild Cat strike (I heard this mentioned on the radio yesterday).
In the United States, wildcat strikes have been considered illegal since 1935. Trade unions have the power to bargain collectively on behalf of their worker-members and call for strike action demanding concessions from employers.
Under the 1935 NLRA (National Labor Relations Act), federal courts have ruled that wildcat strikes are illegal, and that employers have the right to dismiss workers who participate in them.

Not only that
Any unused sick days can be used for early retirement.
( x nte180 fed employee )
I get the feeling there’s more to this story than is being written.
Do rail workers deserve 7 days of paid sick leave per year?
