Just so you don’t inspire snowflakes, no, Browns refers to the uniform color, just like “Cardinals,” [here meaning “Red”] “White Sox,” “Red Sox,” “Blues,” “Reds,” etc. The Baltimore Orioles were formerly known as the St. Louis Browns.
The team is named after their first coach and owner, Paul Brown.
