Pride really causes a person to dig in deeper towards their demise.
Their inability to reason causes them to make default decisions via emotions.
Not sure that I feel sorry for them.

There is more hope for a fool than for them.

Such a spirit lead attitude of forgiveness, kindness, and mercy.
