The U.S. military is being sued over a policy that prevents people living with HIV from enlisting in the armed forces. The lawsuit was filed November 10 by Lambda Legal, which advocates for the LGBTQ and HIV communities and argues that the policy is “senseless” and “discriminatory.”

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of three plaintiffs: Isaiah Wilkins, a 23-year-old Black gay cisgender man; Carol Coe, a 32-year-old Latina transgender lesbian; and Natalie Noe, a 32-year-old cisgender straight woman of Indigenous Australian descent living in California, according to a Lambda Legal press release. All plaintiffs are HIV positive.

Either HIV is a disability, as has been argued using the ADA, or it isn’t. They can’t have it both ways. Disabilities are valid reasons to prevent enlistment.

They should be barred for mental health issues that are unaddressed.

Not being ex-military isn’t the ability to donate blood a medical necessity or requirement?

These people are beyond stupid....
If one of them is laying wounded in the middle of the battlefield, who is going to risk their life to save them, only to die a slow death from HIV?
Not me...

So, Rump Wrangler Ray is in the field facing off against the ChiComs for an extended period, and he can’t get his anti-AIDS meds. What then?

That’s a good point.

Do any FReepers here know if being on ANY long-term prescription meds bars from enlistment? I have a feeling the answer is yes.

Nobody wants to have to worry about HIV blood being splattered all over them when they are in a battle.

This should help recruitment.

Now they’ll get free medical care and hospitalization for their many medical issues - and all the anti-retroviral drugs they need that keep HIV at bay.

Not surprised.
My grandson, a career Air Force Noncom with 15 years in, told me Sunday that he was thinking seriously about packing it in.
Something he said kinda stuck with me.
He said that the Air Force no longer wanted patriots. Social engineering is being placed ahead of everything including combat readiness.

Recruitment is down because all of a sudden are youth are too fat. It’s never due to wokeness....

Typically is a bar for initial enlistment. The military needs men & women in good health. Career service members typically have more leeway, depending on the condition and type of duty.

They’re not interested in serving, they want free health care, including surgery, and expensive drugs.

fwdude, you make a very valid point with the ADA aspect.

People with HIV should be absolutely, 100% barred from donating blood or serving in the Military.

This has zero to do with homosexuality which is a different issue.

It has everything to do with contaminating a blood supply and infecting an innocent recipient, or having a soldier getting infected trying to administer first aid to a wounded solider on the battlefield or in a field aid station where normal personal protection precautions cannot be practically followed.

Not to mention the medication requirements that would have to take up valuable space (ANY space) in a logistical chain, particularly in a battlefield environment to deliver “necessary” medications (Same issue with the transgender Bullsh*t) to a person in the battle space who needs them. In an combat environment, where supplies may be interdicted and therefore unavailable, these people could potentially become casualties due to lack of medication, and become and operational liability instead of an asset. One only needs to look at what we faced in Guadalcanal in WWII where supplies were severely restricted for extended periods of time because the Japanese were successfully restricting our supply chain, and weight loss among the troops became a real problem. (There were men who were already lean, losing 20-30 lbs) If food supply is a serious issue, does anyone believe we would remove food (never mind ammunition or real, necessary medications) from a shipment to be replaced with even small quantities of these stupid superfluous medications?)

That’s it.

This sounds like a scam to me. The Biden administration will fold immediately, using this lawsuit as an excuse to enter a consent decree.

Standard leftist policy. Changes in social-policy or morality, that would never get through Congress, or even a corrupt bureaucracy, can be “sued” into existence by a well-funded NGO, using a friendly court

I haven’t checked, but I would bet “Lambda Legal” even gets money from Fed.gov
