I suppose that I am socially/culturally quite "out of the loop," but I was entirely unfamiliar with this term until now. Did a little research; was it popularized by the lesbian-themed 2020 movie?
My first reaction is to assume that it's an attempt to downgrade, devalue, or otherwise delegitimize the name "Thanksgiving." (Equivalent to pushing "Happy Holidays" in lieu of "Merry Christmas.")
FReepers, what say ye? Should we conservatives resist and decry the introduction of this new term? Or is it harmless?
Regards,
Thanks for weighing in!
That was my first impression, too.
Don't understand why we would need a new word for a Thanksgiving meal to which not only family members are invited; should we rename our Christmas meal, too, because a neighbor or friend is invited?!
Had never heard the term before and so looked it up on Wikipedia; it appears to have come into currency due to a lesbian-themed movie made in 2020. Figures!
Regards,
Heard it just yesterday.
And now, this
