Establishment House Republicans signaled Thursday they oppose impeaching President Joe Biden after reclaiming the majority.
While conservative members of the House filed nine articles of impeachment against Biden since 2021, many establishment Republicans, now with more power in the majority, believe impeaching Biden is not a good idea.
“We shouldn’t even be talking about that, Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) told Politico. Fitzpatrick recently won his election by about ten points over his Democrat challenger.
“There’s so many problems we’ve got to deal with on the policy front … I don’t like the fact that that’s even being discussed,” Fitzpatrick whined.
Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE), who won his reelection by about three points, said impeaching Joe Biden, like Democrats impeached former President Donald Trump for a “perfect phone call,” is not appealing to independents.
“I want to warn our colleagues: There may be some activists in our party that want impeachment. But I can tell you that the swing voters and the independent voters don’t. …We change leadership by elections, impeachment is the outlier,” Bacon said.
Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK) echoed the establishment House members’ opposition. Cole won his district by about 30 points. “The failure to win the Senate hurts a lot, and I think, to be honest, the margin does make a difference. A lot of the people that put us in the majority are from relatively moderate seats. I would hate to put them in that position unless there was an overwhelming reason to” impeach, Cole said.
In the past two years, nine articles of impeachment of been filed against Biden. Reasons for impeachment range from selling oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to foreign nations, the open southern border, pandemic overreach, and the deadly withdrawal from Afghanistan.

There’s a big difference between the Democrats (and some Republicans) impeaching Trump and the Republicans impeaching Biden.
The Democrats who impeached Trump KNEW the Minority Leader had already threatened Trump with removal, twice. They had reason to hope (and maybe even were given reason to hope) that if enough evidence was presented, or if the polls looked good, that McConnell would go along and Trump would be removed.
OTOH, there is ZERO chance that Schumer is signaling McCarthy that Biden needs to go.
“No one is above the law” they said about President Trump.
RINOs want to appease the democrats even though the Republipukes are in power in the house. Don’t want to piss off the deep state with impeaching Biden while also giving cover for the DOJ/Biden administration for going after Trump who hasn’t been in office in almost years now. They think we are stupid to allow this 2 tiered justice.
I think trying to do constructive things for the people should be the priority.

Fitzpatrick is half right, half wrong. Biden should be impeached for his crimes and misdemeanors, no comparison to ‘perfect phone calls’. But impeachment by itself would be political masterbation as some have suggested. Republicans must stop the Biden/Obama agenda, and they can only do that by power of the purse since they hold only the house. Defund, defund, defund. Refuse to appropriate funds.
The thing is they pretend to think it’s 1955. They know EXACTLY what they are doing, and this is their façade to try to take the high road and that does nothing to get new voters from independants or Democrats. Why they are courting these people and abandoning MAGA supporters are beyond me, but it’s all part of their UNIPARTY plan.

That is exactly what the Dems did to Trump, impeached him in the House and not convicted in the Senate. And the Dems used the word impeached in every propaganda sentence thereafter to impugn Trump’s character and make him appear corrupt. The fact that he wasn’t is immaterial; they spun the lie to try to take Trump down.
That is the point of impeaching Biden. Revenge. Do the same thing to Biden by sticking him with the stigma of impeachment just like they did to Trump. Use it as OUR propaganda against the Biden regime, who actually IS corrupt. No lie there.

Spot-on. That McConnell changed the election for Senate Leadership to the existing Senate and refused to wait for the elected Senate to be seated tells us everything we need to know about him and the US Senate Republicans that voted for him.
And Milquetoast McCarthy announcing no impeachment before the mid-term elections told us everything we needed to know about him and the direction of the House. Any investigations of the Biden Crime Family will be more undercut by the House "leadership" than anything the Democrats will do to them.
And finally, Ronna McDaniel. What a pathetic excuse for RNC leadership.

What we're getting is more of the same and it's absolutely disgraceful.

Perhaps, if that were the reason. Seems like their reason is that they just don’t want to because they want to get on with Establishment Business as Usual. Curious if any that have said this or oppose impeachment of Biden voted to impeach Trump either time?
I tend to agree with him. There hasn't been a single hearing yet. No actual evidence presented to congress. Talking impeachment now looks as if the outcome has been preordained.
This hurts the committees credibility. We need to have a full investigation and present all the evidence so compelling and overwhelming that even a good number of Dems demand his removal.
(P.S. The dems want and need him gone by 2024 anyway.)
Accountability matters regardless of age and office terms. While I see you point, I don’t think that is the reason they are saying this—they plan to do nothing, as usual.
