It’s Costing Peanuts for the US to Defeat Russia
CEPA ^ | 18-NOV-2022 | Timothy Ash

Posted on 11/19/2022 10:14:44 AM PST by SpeedyInTexas

The Ukrainian armed forces have already killed or wounded upwards of 100,000 Russian troops, half its original fighting force; there have been almost 8,000 confirmed losses of armored vehicles including thousands of tanks, thousands of APCs, artillery pieces, hundreds of fixed and rotary wing aircraft, and numerous naval vessels. US spending of 5.6% of its defense budget to destroy nearly half of Russia’s conventional military capability seems like an absolutely incredible investment. If we divide out the US defense budget to the threats it faces, Russia would perhaps be of the order of $100bn-150bn in spend-to-threat. So spending just $40bn a year, erodes a threat value of $100-150bn, a two-to-three time return.

The US military might reasonably wish Russia to continue deploying military forces for Ukraine to destroy.

...

In conclusion, on so many levels, continued US support for Ukraine is a no-brainer from a bang for buck perspective. Ukraine is no Vietnam or Afghanistan for the US, but it is exactly that for Russia. A Russia continually mired in a war it cannot win is a huge strategic win for the US.

Why would anyone object to that?

B.S. article. It’s costing a hell of a lot more than “peanuts” both in dollars and long term, there is a cost to stability. We’ve badly depleted our ordnance, which costs billions to replace. And there is nothing more dangerous than a cornered, wounded animal. Anyone that believes Russia will actually collapse and become NOT a threat is smoking something

America will fight Russia to the last Ukrainian.

The enormous damage done to America’s prestige and dominance was enormous.

The world moving away from dollar and trades in the dollar.
Most of Europe freezing in the dark this winter.
Hunger throughout most of the developing world

I was unaware the United States has declared war on Russia.

For all that Timothy Ash is crowing about investments to “defeat Russia”, I’ve never been impacted by Russia like I’ve been impacted by Democrat policies, inflation, open borders, and the Deep State.

But sure, keep prioritizing the Russian boogeyman. It’s not like you have anything better to do, apparently.

I enjoyed reading Safire’s columns, especially his Sunday edition on writing.

He’d have plenty of material with today’s press.

So wrong. US weapons are a ‘shining beacon’. The World wants them.

CEPA stands for Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA)

About statement:

The Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, public policy institution based in Washington DC, focused on strengthening the transatlantic alliance through cutting-edge research, analysis, and programs.

Can you propaganda at its highest form? Anyone who believes this is delusional.

Yep. Great for Lockheed Martin stockholders.

Glad you think this a great thing.

Meanwhile, the BRICS countries are expanding and not using the dollar for trade.

And you have no idea how this is gonna crush America.

You’re dying too, as is everyone on this blue ball called earth. No one, including Putin, as well as his detractors, knows when that date is.

“So wrong. US weapons are a ‘shining beacon’.”

Weapons sales are an amoral action, dependent upon what the buyer does with them.

American weapons used by the UK or France are not equal to American weapons used by Pakistan or Saudi Arabia.

We sell to whomever is able and willing to buy.

But don’t pretend like being the world’s top arms exporter is some barometer of America’s moral goodness.

A “shining beacon”? Come on.

Stop talking sense to Speedy, he doesn't possess common sense, let alone any other type of sense.

He just believes in his government regardless of who is in control of it. The government is in complete control by Marxists/Communists who absolutely are jealous of the control the CCP has over her citizens. That's why they are determined to have that same control.

Idiots like Speedy are too ignorant to understand that reality.

Its costing peanuts to run the risk of WWIII.

Surrendering to nuclear blackmail ensures nuclear proliferation and there eventual use. A firm hand is needed here with the world watching. Cutting and running is the worst possible outcome.

Play the long game and grind the Russian forces under the logistics version of warfare.

How many trillions and how many decades do you think we should commit to that folly? Why do you think it's our business to do that?

And why are we spending anything to defend a corrupt country that purchased our loathsome idiot president (and his party)?
Sorry, it’s their problem. And Europe’s problem. Long past time those lazy socialist b*stards got off their butts and started paying for their own defense.
