Most of the GOPe nominated Presidential candidate have never fought back. They sat in the corner like a puppy with their tail between their legs, never defending themselves against the attacks that were thrown at them. It wasn't gentlemanly or some such bullshit. I didn't like Trump even before he threw his hat in the ring. The only thing I knew about Trump was that he had been married three times. I hadn't planned on voting for him. I didn't like any of the candidates to tell you the truth, but once Trump opened his mouth, and stood up for himself, and said things I'd been saying for years, I decided he was exactly what our party, and this country needed. He was the first Republican candidate since Reagan that I didn't have to hold my nose to vote for. And I will never hold my nose and vote for any asshole the GOPe throws our way ever again. I'd rather sit home than compromise my values, and my vote for someone who doesn't deserve it.

Name one that didn’t. His 2017 inauguration was marred by widespread violence, include cars set on fire. The 2020 nomination acceptance speech outside the White House was followed by supporters getting mugged in the street as they tried to walk back to their hotels. Rand Paul and his wife were surrounded by screaming masked leftists
The DC political establishment provides no sure protection for Trump rallies. Because of this pattern, Trump should have known he was putting people at risk for asking them to come to DC - and even tweeting “it’s going to be wild”. I personally counseled people not to go, the danger was so obvious
Also, the rally was a distraction from the Congressional debate where GOP members had prepared to present evidence on national tv of vote irregularities. That never happened, because Trump called a rally and predictable violence ensued.
