My understanding is that IF McCarthy doesn’t get enough votes, it will go back to Nancy Pelosi. This is not the official caucus vote that the House takes on the first day of session.
This is an internal party vote for party leadership. This vote is saying that the Republicans will vote for McCarthy for Speaker, so Scalise can be the Majority Leader.
The actual vote for Speaker won't happen until the new Congress is seated in January.

Real Wives of South Florida, starring Melania Trump, Kathryn Limbaugh, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, Brenda Snipes, Gloria Estefan, and Judy Sheindlin.

Presume the GOP has 220 Members on January 3.
How many do you think would vote for Donald Trump as Speaker? 5?
Trump was the 2020 Republican nominee for president who was cheated out of his second term by massive voting fraud. They have the opportunity to put him in as Speaker, a position from which he could return as POTUS in at least two different scenarios. Assuming he wants the job, it would be a test of party loyalty to name Trump Speaker.
Those who refuse would be exposed as disloyal to the party, their constituents who voted for Trump, and would face fund raising hurdles, primary challengers, etc. So, those who would vote to name Trump Speaker should be the entire party caucus, although I expect that the two who voted to convict him of the impeachment would not. It would serve as another reminder to the folks back home that there are two RINOs needing to be primaried yet again.

We haven’t missed cable, a bit, since we cut the cord, months ago.
We’re enjoying watching the programming we enjoy, without the liberal channels added/and, cost.
We primarily use Roku.
