B-17 bomber and a smaller plane collide at Dallas airshow
Reports now are there were NO paying passengers on that flight.
And he was the last of 3 or 4 fighters off to his left. Probably had his eyes on the fighter he was trailing as number 4... lost track of the bomber. And it’s possible the bomber was out of it’s planned position too.
The flight brief was blown by someone...
Thank you for the explanation that only the experienced can give. I understand.
Tragic. Ugly. The little plane caused the wings of the B-17 to separate from the fuselage.
There are tweets coming from them that they do not take paying passengers on the airshow low pass, formations, activity flights... Looks like only crew and people associated with the plane were on it. Hearing 5...

yep... the whole concept of deflection shooting revolved around that.
Looks like he flew through the fuselage just behind the wings, the plane separated into the front half, the wings are the part forward, and the tail section. The smaller plane seems to have just disintegrated, I can't see large segments in the debris. The pilot of the P-63 was probably (hopefully) killed instantly, and the drivers of the B-17 probably were pulling back hard on the yoke, and hit the ground before they fully understood what had happened.
There's just some sick, sick FReepers.
Tragedy. Just sad.
You keep saying it was deliberate and that the fighter saw him and adjusted his course into him. You’re being a weasel. Freaking accident caused by a mistake.
This is a thread you should stay out of and maybe just listen.
Damn, damn, sad.
One small bright spot is that there will be lots of video for accident investigators to review, which will make determining a root cause of the mishap possible.
Yep... and we should all remember, at least 50,000 twenty-something men died that way during WWII. We lost more dead to accidents than to combat and the combat deaths were just as horrible.
We see airshows, hear the Glenn Miller music playing, and the mood is really upbeat. We should never forget what the reality of that war was for so many Americans.
True... and then the radio traffic will be showing up soon also.
I have seen fighters whiz by bombers in airshows in mock combat. I have also seen fighters to similar things with other fighters.
People on FR are mostly pricks, like you.
Yep.
Amen....
So much lost.
They were literally dragged off the tarmac by their hair by security.
Did you ever check the film in post #14?
Clearly the 63 was ABOVE the bomber.
You need to view several perspectives to triangulate it into the correct synopsis.
Six in the air...so very sad.
Prayers for all.
