Tesla is KICKING Toyota's BUTT | Toyota acting like Kodak
Cleanerwatt ^ | NOVEMBER 12 2022 | Cleanerwatt

When it comes to EVs, Toyota has been dragging their feet, but now reality is hitting them smack in the face - they were wrong about EVs - and are beginning to look a bit like Kodak. Meanwhile, Tesla has been kicking butt and taking names and Toyota may soon be a relic of the past if they don’t pivot quickly.

The trouble with Toyota is, they have been number 1 in the car business for so long, they find it hard to turn round and even contemplate reducing their dominant position in the ICE vehicles to commit seriously to EV's. They are still making half hearted efforts with their hybrid cars and a very small market share in EVs. Its going to cost them sooner or later.

-—Is that another way of saying Teslas are way overpriced?-—

In China yes.

The Shanghai profits from Tesla sales were immense. One result is in fact a lowering of price. But, the Tesla price in China is competitive at the extremely profitable rate. As competition lowers the price, so can Tesla.

The Tesla disruption in the USA has not really begun yet. The Texas MEGA plant is just getting rolling and will produce cars at a fantastic rate unequaled by any other American manufacturer.

Tesla pick ups are sold out even though not yet available.

Thank God for Toyota, they do hybrids. That’s the practical solution.

What a ridiculous article.

They may be rated for 500 miles, but I doubt any get even 300 actual. Then you have to wait a couple of hours at a charging station. EVs are just not practical yet. Given that most of them are powered by electricity generated by coal, they are far “dirtier” than gas-powered cars,.

Toyota is in no threat of losing its crown, of being the worlds#1 car brand…

Toyota looks like the smart guys in the room right now, slow walking battery evs in favor of what consumers actually want.
Their only risk is that tyrannical governments are “all in” on battery evs.

The Tesla cultists will put up with their lousy quality but the mainstream folks won’t. At some point Tesla has to improve or stall out.

Actually they are.
VW is breathing down their necks in total sales.
And VW is doing much better than Toyota in the EV market.

Tesla stopped getting them EV subsidies over 2 years ago

I am aware that Tesla stopped getting the $7K subsidies after they hit sales thresholds. Other EV car companies are still getting them.

Tesla continues to get subsidized through the sale of carbon credits. Under the radar, but very real.

https://carboncredits.com/tesla-regulatory-carbon-credit-sales-jumps-116/

I don't hold this against Tesla, they almost have a duty to get every legal financial advantage available, and they didn't make the program. They are only exploiting it.

It DOES warp the market mechanisms that should inform us of the viability of widespread and nearly mandatory electric car use for an entire population.

Tesla cultists love Tesla.
And people used to good quality won’t.
I drive by the local Tesla service depot about once a week and it’s always overflowing with cars, they need to double stack them.

Might want to check your numbers. VW’s been falling since their peak year..

https://www.factorywarrantylist.com/car-sales-by-manufacturer.html

Lack of EV options aren’t killing Toyota

In fact last year they outsold GM in the US for the first time ever by over 130k cars

This article is just activism pretending to be journalism

Tesla cultists love Tesla.

Nobody loves a product with bad quality like you claimed before.

I drive by the local Tesla service depot about once a week and it's always overflowing with cars, they need to double stack them

Which in itself doesn't prove anything apart from there are vastly less Tesla service depots around, and ZERO Tesla sales dealerships since Tesla sells direct.

Same with Toyota, GM, Ford and every other big ICE car maker.

I’m hearing more and more stories of apartment buildings high-rise condo complex is not allowing full battery powered cars in their underground garage

If true, it would seem to me that is insurance related. The Chevy Bolt battery recall problem is still fresh in everyone's minds that are paying close attention. What is more likely to be happening is Condo owners and apartment owners don't want to pay for expensive upgrades because there is little demand from their current customers/owners. Large apartment owners and condo building owners should be hesitant about drilling into columns and beams to hang electricity conduits, especially in Florida...

No it’s the fact that when these things catch fire you can’t put them out. Even when you do put them out they reignite themselves an hour or so later. If one of those cars caught on fire in a below building garage it would likely burn the whole building down And set ablaze every car in the garage due to a chain reaction Not to mention you can’t get a fire truck down there

You do raise a good point. It seems likely that below ground parking operators will need to adjust fire suppression measures
