NY House seat flipper Mike Lawler says it’s time for GOP to ditch Trump

The face of a red mini-wave in New York on Election Day says it’s time for the Republican Party to ditch former President Donald Trump and back another candidate for the White House in 2024.

“I would certainly like to see the party move forward. There are a lot of rising stars,” Congressman-elect Mike Lawler — who rocked the political world by defeating Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chairman — told The Post Thursday.

“Gov. Ron DeSantis has energized voters in the state of Florida. It’s always good to have new voices,” added Lawler, an assemblyman who will represent the Hudson Valley’s 17th District in Congress.

The GOP in New York picked up four House seats, including NY-17, increasing from seven to 11, which is being credited with potentially giving Republicans the margin to narrowly regain the House majority.

We’ve noticed that democrats are dropping Biden. Go to DU though- not a single thread saying this.

We on FR are doubting Trump and the media is talking about it.

You’re all being played. You’re doing exactly what they want you to.

If the gop did poorly on mid terms, then it was always a plan to run articles like this to get us all doubting.

The media isn’t doing that with Biden. Not at all.

You’re all being played and manipulated.

Those other nominees have a McConnell, Ryan, Bush, Graham. etc. and CCP problem. You dont want to be owned by the CCP do you because that’s what will happen with these potential mominees.

Interesting take. You may be right. Raftenbetger is definitely not to be trusted and Kemp isn’t either. I do think the f4aud will occur before 2024—it will happen with the Senate run-off.

I am so sad about Zeldin.

I thought he really had a chance.

They didn’t finish counting all the votes (as far as I’m concerned). I’m sorry he conceded. OTOH, he may have been threatened.

Many voted against specific candidates because they didn’t want to vote for a Trump surrogate. You should know that.

The GOP would be dead buried and gone if not for Trump... Trump cleared the decks for a guy like DeSantis and especially a superstar like Kari... He may be a problem but look what he’s up against: the most vicious trash ever to inhabit this country.

Absolutely, and the most vicious of the trash are RINOs. They were in on the steal in 2020 and continued in 2022. They don't want election integrity any more than the Democrats do. Both halves of the Uniparty despise Americans and liberty.

The Republicrats championed Liz Cheney, including a fictitious impeachment, against their own voters. If the Republicrats force Trump out, which of those voters would ever back the replacement candidate?

"We stabbed your guy in the back but you need to vote for us against these Democrats".

Oh, they'll throw money at DeSantis but he's sharp enough to know that he'll either have to play McConnell monkey or they'll stab him in the back too.

If Trump succeeds, DeSantis has a bright future. If the RINOs succeed and send up DeSantis for President, DeSantis will have stepped out of the governorship to be nothing but a sacrificial lamb. Yeah, they may reward him with a consulting gig but who wants to work alongside Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger?

“Gov. Ron DeSantis has energized voters in the state of Florida.

DeSantis didn’t get no where the voted Trump did he needs to stay where he is it’s the best for him and Florida.
He should run after Trump’s term it’s a two double win he keeps Florida in working order while Trump gets the country back in working order.
Bonus round: Piss of the media and the Marxist democrats

Yes indeed.

I'm not doubting Trump at all.

If they succeed in ditching Trump, I refuse to play for the Republican-conservative coalition any longer.

Lawler is already prepping for re-election. I just heard Republicans got more votes than 2010. He is really going to be sorry he flapped his trap.

Saying to dump Trump is rather harsh. However, even though Trump accomplished a lot, he used poor judgment in several areas.

He thought the force of his personality would get people to naturally support his policies. That didn’t happen. He made many bad appoinents and didn’t, or wouldn’t dump them when he should have.

Sessions was a bad choice for AG, his first 2-3 Chiefs of Staff undermined him. Same with DoD, FBI, CIA, SoS, etc. The best hire was Gen. Flynn, but his advisors wrongly told Trump to get rid of him.

Trump listened to the wrong people concerning COVID-19 policies. He should have pushed the hydroxychloriquine and Ivermectin cocktails as promoted by the top non-government scientists, researchers, and doctors.
