My son died last year from alcohol poisoning that led to cardiac arrest.
Worked for AMZ. An alcoholic. Several in the family. I don’t think he ever used any drugs of any kind.
If you are an alcoholic, you have three choices: you quit, you lose your mind, or you die. This is true for beautiful, intelligent upscale people as well as homeless bums. I thank God that I was never interested in booze beyond the occasional gin and tonic during summer months.
So sorry.
I got out of that situation. How I’ll never ever-really know.
‘You could just as easily claim wearing Nike shoes causes death because 9 out of 10 murderers are wearing them. Correlation doesn’t equal causation.’
Nike shoes cause behavioral impairment and poor judgement...?
who knew...?
Yes, genetics can be part of it.
Alcoholics come from all social and financial classes. Remember Betty Ford?
She finally got sober and started The Betty Ford Center where people from all walks of life get sober. Or they don’t. Gorgeous Elizabeth Taylor went to “The Betty” several times.
“Alcoholics come from all social and financial classes.”
Actually, being an alcoholic can help ensure your alcoholic genes survive. It’s ironic that they tell pregnant women to avoid alcohol since it is frequently the use of it that explains how they got that way.
“alcohol is killing Americans during their prime working years”
Strange, I always thought my prime working years caused me to drink alcohol.
Seriously though, never drank daily but when I was young I would drink too much at a time. As hangovers got worse I new I had to cut way back or turn pro. My friends who turned pro don’t look so good. I feel great.
Ive probably smoked more pot than 99.99% of this forum. It is an evil, dangerous drug.
I didn’t say I don’t believe it happens—I just don’t believe the percentage of the population claimed by the authors.
I would add compromised immune systems which makes one susceptible to morbidity from flu and pneumonia infections.
Alcohol and the immune system:
“Clinicians have long observed an association between excessive alcohol consumption and adverse immune-related health effects such as susceptibility to pneumonia.”

who knew...?
And all this time alcohol was the reason inner city street gangs robbed, raped, murdered and dealt drugs.
We could have just shut down the liquor stores and fixed the crime problem overnight…who knew…?
Friend of mine went like that years ago.
Yeah, right?
Yup.
Congrats.
32 years for me.
My worst day sober was always better than my best day drunk.
It’s not what you drink or how much that matters.
It’s what happens when you do.
1. The Smithsonian is now a woke publication.
2. People are notorious for under reporting how much they drink. So much for the “data” that is the underpinning of this study.
That’s great!
