What the Hell happened in MI? Whitmer was hated.I heard of low voter turnout n Detroit> Was it abortion? From what I have heard, the people of MI just passed an abortion referendum that allows for abortion through 9 months (and beyond) without restriction. Yes? No?

Yes. Don't forget that Michigan, especially southern Michigan is still a union stronghold. The last Rep Governor was very middle of the road and no threat to the status quo. And forget Detroit where most are on the dole. Only James Craig could have peeled off enough of those votes but he was disqualified for faulty signatures.

The Democrats sewed Michigan up for good in the summer of 2018, when they got hold of the 2016 general election ballots for the red Michigan counties.
