Sigh...we are NOT a ‘democracy’...we are supposed to be a ‘Constitutional Republic’, but we morphed into a ‘kakistocracy’.

That said, ‘democracy’ has a couple of accepted definitions.
While you are correct that we are supposed to be a Constitutional Republic, one of the accepted definitions of democracy is a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives, which is not totally inaccurate in describing our Republic.
Democracy can also be defined as ‘majority or mob rule’, which would be the version we try to avoid.
